Halo 3 is the same old same old. Portal is the best game of the last few years, hands down, and it comes in a magical box with some other amazing shit. The Orange Box is THE game of the year, and the best deal in gaming since Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World were on the same cartridge.

If this were any other year I would agree that Halo 3 would get it but there are just too many great games this year. Has any other year ever seen so many games with so many 9+ ratings? I don't think Halo 3 or MP3 will even be in most of the runnings this year which is sad because they are both really good games.

-edit-
My personal prediction for the  top 3 games to be on the most GotY lists  are Bioshock, Super Mario Galaxy, and Mass Effect.  Mass Effect is still a little iffy to me but if it turns out to be everything it's supposed to be I think it will make it on quite a few GotY lists.

Personally, I think polls should be enabled for anyone on the site. They're completely useless but they give users a good chance to bicker, spit, throw tantrums, and harass each other. It makes for good business from a webmaster's point of view.

I know it's a bitch and that ioi has better things to do, but it should definitely be an option down the road when he has a bit more time to dedicate to that sort of thing.

Personally, I think Orange Box is out of consideration for GOTY because I have played most of it already.

That doesn't mean it's not great or that I have enjoyed another game disc as much as that one this year, but it's largely the same ol' shit. Great shit, but shit nonetheless. Been there, done that. Love it, done it.

PS. Portal is freakin' great.

Not only is the poll a little early but it is missing 4 of the big contenders for GOTY. With Uncharted, Assasins Creed, Orange Box, and Haze, and possibly Unreal Tournement 3 it is a very underwhelming poll. I don't me to be jumping out of my shoes here, but after the comments that have been going around on Uncharted and Ratchet, it seams as if Naughty Dog has the better shot at GOTY for at least PS3. At the moment Orange Box has been making a lot bigger noise as far as quality goes for shooters on 360 than either Bioshock or Halo 3. It should come down to OB or Mass Effect forb 360 this year in my book. In the case of the Wii Mario has had Checkmate since the day they delayed SSBB.

Does anything think the current poll question is a little early?:

Which is going to be Game of the Year 2007?
 Bioshock
 Halo 3
 Mass Effect
 Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction
 Super Mario Galaxy

Two of those games aren't out yet and one of those only comes out this week. This question really should wait until late December at the earliest.

Not only that, but the Orange Box and Uncharted are completely missing from the poll.  The Orange Box has a 96.2% rating on Gamerankings, or better than every other game on that list.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

No offense but it's apparent that you haven't played any of those games.

BiosShock is my personal favorite this year so far.
Halo 3 does everything well and it is spit-shined to a polish that I haven't seen since...
Spit-shining brings up Orange Box. The only thing going against it is the fact that I've already played half the content. Luckily for gamers, the first half of the content is worth playing again and the second half is great unto itself.

The thing is rocketpig, a lot of console gamers haven't already played HL2 and Episode 1, and even though I have, Episode 2 and Portal are the best single player FPS games I've played in a long time, and TF2 the best multiplayer. GOTY for me.

Plus the Gamerankings score says it all.

I've spent a fair amount of time the past two days playing TF2 and I have to agree: I prefer the MP in that over Halo 3. I just hope MS certifies that patch soon so Valve get fix the lag, which is terrible at times.
