They may share similar core mechanics, but Gears is more innovative. Uncharted took almost all of its major parts from other games and perfected it.

I disagree strongly. I can't think of any games besides maybe Assassin's Creed that do climbing, jumping, etc. as well as Uncharted. Gears of War is great but what do you find so original about it? I'm actually asking. I think you've got it backwards. I would say Uncharted is more innovative and Gears "perfected" its style of gameplay.

What is there to disagree with? I gave examples such as Prince of Persia, Tomb Raider and Killswitch. All of these games came before Uncharted and. The only thing you've got on Gears is Killswitch. Uncharted by no stretch of the imagination is innovative. It just took from other great games and made its own name. Because of Uncharted I may never look at Tomb Raider again, because it is the total package of the games which I forementioned. Gears took from killswitch and innovated and pushing the third person shooters with aggessive warlike atmosphere that makes you feel like you're in a war complete with action, bayonette slicing, Quick reload/ Jamming. Gears is so innovative that Tecmo was compelled to make a game that looks exactly like it in the form of Quantum Theory for the PS3. That game...well..looks like a joke, but still a compliment is a compliment.

Okay yeah I'll admit Gears did some cool things like the chainsaw and the reloading thing but it's like the millionth game to have a "warlike atmosphere" like this. I mean the setting, the enemies, the movement, the cover system, the soldiers are all nothing new. They just did a good job of putting it all into one nice package.

And I know Uncharted's platforming is nothing new either, I think it's the extent to which you can use it that is somewhat innovative. Basically anything you see can be used for climbing on.

No game before Gears allowed you to feel like you were in Warlike situations. The whole feel of the battle was just extreme. That is something completely new to the third person genre. Not even COD or Halo make you feel so immersed in war. You feel like everything is falling ontop of you. As I said if you play the game on the right setting like I do, it is blistering fun. That is wholly innovative.

You cannot climb anything you see in the first Uncharted. I agree though that it is a great platformer.

Sounds like Killzone to me, honestly. The way I see it, Gears of War was inspired by Killzone and kill.switch.

Well, Gears did feel like war when it first released, although NO game IMO did it quite like Killzone 2 has. Regardless, Uncharted 2 felt so cinematic, it's ridiculous. No game before blended all the things it did, while in some cases, Uncharted 2 did things of it's own. Entire set pieces moving and breaking apart while combat is happening. No, Tomb Raider didn't do that.

Almost all PS3 exclusives boast one of a kind cinematic experiences. Heavenly Sword, remember? My only gripe with the game was that it was too cinematic in instances where I wanted to play.

So you have gone from UC not being innovative to just making one statement against all PS3 games? Wow. Also it's pointless to argue with you because gears of war does everything better as far as your concerned. If someone comes up with an argument you just say gears is better or the other game doesn't resemble gears at all which it does in some peoples opinions.

So, nevermind sales nor critic scores, UC wins hands down because the OP likes the games main character and graphics more.. that's it. laaaame

Nah......no game was inspired by the first Killzone. It wasn't bad though to tell you the truth.

What I really liked about the first Killzone was that it felt like a gritty warzone, and that it felt believable despite being set in the future. I feel like Gears of War's setting was partly inspired by Killzone.

I can understand that, but the first Killzones wartime depiction in game was nowhere near Gears. Gears was just another level wartime gameplay, especially when you were running and breathing heavily. Every level felt expansive and unreal. Truthfully I understand your point there, but I cannot even see a resemblance.

(Spoilers for all who haven't played the game)

Killzone Gameplay (Nothing like Gears)...expansive...but felt just like every other wartime shooter.

Gears if a one of a kind war time experience. Period dude. LOL

The color filter of both games have somewhat of a resemblance. I agree that Gears of War took it to a whole new level, but when you said no game before Gears have a warlike feeling, I'd have to disagree, since the first Killzone gave a similar impression (that was what made it stand out in the first place, along with its hard sci fi design, what bogged its quality down were the poor shooting mechanics and the graphical glitches). But yeah, I agree Gears was one hell of a war time experience.

It's all about evolution again, basically, which is a good thing.

Critic scores work in Uncharted 2's favor, buddy.

Question: What game(s) did Gears' cover mechanic derive from?

Kill.Switch - (PS2/Xbox) title.

There are innovative aspects to Gears of War (active reload, Horde), but for people to say Uncharted does nothing innovative is ridiculous IMO.

As I said....name the innovations. I'll show you a game in the same genre where Uncharted got it from. What makes Uncharted so perfect is that  it took great parts from other games and perfected them in one brilliant cinematic package. To innovate is to bring something new to the table in the genre that  hasn't been see before there.

Name me the innovations that Gears brought to the table and I'll show you a game in the same genre where Gears got it from.

This is just off the top of my head....

Gears 1 and 2 innovations in the TPS genre:

-Mechanics new to TPS:

-Chainsaw battle mini-game

-Reload Mini-game

-team-mate revival

-Low run and breathe movement

-first person viewpoint angle

-multiple fatality buttons

-Weapon wheel with directional pad

-pick up/finisher and opponent animations while they are crawling (4 button choice)

-crawling to be revived mini-game (sometimes you actually come back to life by tapping a as fast as you can if you weren't killed).

-Amazing amounts of gore and blood

- Innovative Weaponry to TPS:

-Lancer assault rifle (Chainsaw Bayonet)

-Torque bow (Explosive arrows that go through opponents body before exploding)

- Boom Shield. (Can be used to block pathways and shield you from enemy fire)

- Hammer of Dawn/Hammer Satellite

- Ink Grenade

- Turning grenades into proximity mines

Innovative Maps:

-Avalanche (Massive avalanche occurs falling over the battle ground)

-Security (Area blocked off with lasers so enemies cannot get toward you)

Since when did I say Gears did everything better? I stated that Uncharted was not innovative, not that I didn't subjectively like it better. I haven't stated which game I liked better for that matter. I stated that the games should not be compared, because they are very different.

There is an evolution, I definitely agree on that, but that evolution was from Killswitch, not Killzone. Gears was nothing like Killzone, besides to say that it was a wartime game. The wartime feeling was all its own. That is Epic and Cliff Bleszinskis gifted mind right there. Look at the Gears videos I sent, including the second one. You're comparing a TPS experience to an FPS experience which clearly gets that argument nowhere.

^ Okay, now we can agree. At first, I thought your point was that no game gave a gritty warlike feeling before it at all, which is what I disagreed with in the first place. But now I get it.

idk all about that but gears is one of the most underrated games this gen yes im a ps3 fan but i played the 1st one a little bit dont know much about the 2nd one

gears has local MP both co-op and deathmatch type game modes U1 doesnt even have online U2 doesnt even have offline co-op, i dont understand why it does not gears 1 came out in 06

gears was also 1st on the scene with all the TPS cover crap in 06 everything that comes out after that will always be compared to it i cant tell u how many times ive read Uncharted is a poor mans gears on the net

not to mention gears is a more mature game

There's no offline co-op in U2 because it would be a grave injustice to the game to compress it's graphics into a splitscreen. There's no way it would have still looked good.

Also, Gears is a more mature game?  Why because it's more violent?  I don't think violence is what makes something mature, it in fact makes it more childish and ridiculous.  Uncharted 2 is rated T, but it pushes it in terms of language and sexuality.  I think it's much more mature to play as a flawed everyman like Nathan Drake than a "unstoppable badass!"

And the "It's a poor man's Gears!" complaint is just what Xbox fanboys say to put down Uncharted, it's not a legitimate criticism and  no review has said anything like that at all.

So yeah, Uncharted wins.
