Forums - Website Topics - The Rules About Calling Things "Exclusive"

Oh, also, what about virtual console and such? Does the original PS1 lose exclusive claims to SotN, MGS, FFVII, ect, because they are on arcade?

Also, does the N64 lose exclusivity of OOT and Mario 64 due to the Wii and DS?

How retroactive is this rule?

How important could be that to any discussion? Those games were exclusive when it actually mattered (except for FF7 and MGS, which were on PC), now that that both consoles' lifespan has ended long time ago, why should we care about the number of exclusives they have now? If we had to compare the N64 and PS1 libraries, we would be comparing them from that time's perspective, not from today. That would be meaningless

Great measure, I always found that some comments calling certain games complete exclusives annoying given that I can play them perfectly in PC. This rule ensures there's no discrimination against gaming platforms, and I'm glad it's being enforced

...this rule might not be as good for the PC as you think....

Forgive me, but I don't play the "my platform has more exclusives" game. I don't care about it. I just get annoyed when someone claims a game's exclusive when it's not. It's misinformation

How about if we are arguing the exclusives on PSN, Virtual Console, and XBL. All have their share of ports/remakes

They were exclusives at the time, so obviously you could say the PS1 had these exclusives if we are making a discussion of past events, but also it's obviously not the only place to play it anymore, as it's been ported. The rules on ports are clear, they are not currently exclusives. OoT can be played on the Gamecube and Wii in addition to the N64 now. Perfect Dark soon on the 360.

This really isn't that confusing, but you like to make arguments and issues of things that aren't issues, so I'll try and shut down the silliness before it starts.

Spirit of the law vs letter of the law.  It's quite obvious what the intent of this rule is.

And honestly, why would anybody make a thread concerning one of these games that would involve labeling it as exclusive?  Nobody says "I love the Ocarina of Time, best N64 exclusive!" or "The Ocarina of Time!  Releasing soon!  Only on N64!" these days.

The thing about it is, last generation when PS2 had the most exclusive, there was nobody crying "oh noes i can play it on PC", now all of a sudden its a big deal.

Zen, no one gives a damn. Stop trying to start crap. This is a thread to define a rule, so rather than start a pissing contest ask a legitimate question or piss off.

EDIT: Naz said leave, so I'm out. Sorry to start an argument

Last gen people could make a case for the ps2's library without bringing PC games into the equation.  And even then, of the ps2's notable titles, most were ps2-only (GT3/4, FFX/XII, MGS3, etc. etc. etc.), with only a few going ps2/pc (DMC for example, and the ports were late and quite bad).

Other than that, games were either full multiplat (Call of Duty) or else went fully multiplat down the line (Grand Theft Auto, though it never made it to GameCube =/).

And even then, you're looking at this from a console war mentality.  The purpose of such labels is to simply inform people of which platforms a game will be released on.  The purpose is not for fanboys to brag about their line up.

When making a thread about a game, people should label each specific platform the game is going to so that people interested in playing the game will know.  If it's only going to one platoform, some label it as exclusive simply to remove all doubt.
