Finally, the software may not be coming out in the fiscal year sufficient to move consoles. GT5 will have less than one month in this fiscal year in Japan -- and no more than that (if that) in the rest of the world. FF will have a full quarter to sell in Japan. But unless everyone in Japan who buys FF games (3M for FF X, 2.5M for X-2 and XII) buys a PS3, then the hardware sales are not going to skyrocket.

good point.. but it didn't happen with X360when they dropped the price last yr, why u think it will effect PS3? moreover PS2 install base is much larger than XBOX install base.. so Sony has more customers to offer PS3  to upgrade from PS2 or if they have gone to X360 than if there X360 RROD than they can give PS3 another chance... so it make me believe that PS3 will sell a lot more than the numbers XBOX achieved last yr.

It's not shipped. It's clearly stated by Sony that it's sold to retail. I see vast amounts of straw clutching as usual.

Fiscal year ends in March, remember that.

Also, PS3 can easily sell ~3mil Units in just December alone.

you know, after reading this forum, you've made me realize just exactly how much time of my life i am wasting on this god damned site. these sales and predictions are all just useless trivia for someone like me. to be honest, i'm glad you've opened my eyes in some way. i'm done with this place now

I vote surprisingly insightful random post of the day.

Anyhow, I think you guys who think 13 mil will be met easily are a bit too optimistic. It's definitely reachable, but I wouldn't say it's a given like the dude who predicted 13 to 15 mil.

Define sold to retail then? We get this every quarter... Sony (just like MS and Nintendo) report what they have sold to stores, ie "shipped". This site (and NPD, Media Create, etc...) than try to estimate the sales to customers (us).

I won't comment on your straw clutching comment cause I don't get it.

Sony will likely reach it if they stuff the channel in March. Otherwise I don't think it's likely.

Quick question, what is meant by stuffing the channel, is it possible for Sony(MS and Nintendo) to force the retailers to buy and stock more than they expect to sell, especially in these troubled times?
