Not only will the first few months of 2010 play host to the release dates of a squadron of delayed aught-nine blockbusters, it's also when we can expect to see the recently announced, seriously embiggened DSi XL hit North American and European store shelves. According to a Nintendo spokesperson, the new model of the handheld will be released stateside (and ... union-side?) in the first quarter of 2010.

That just leaves us with one final, appropriately oversized question: How much is it going to cost? Don't get us wrong, we love the idea of buying a bigger version of a smaller version of a smaller version of an originally bulky handheld -- but based on the sheer number of titles we'll be buying in the dawn of next year, we're probably going to be kinda strapped.

this gen is creating a really bad trend for handhelds. I'm not really happy about it. Way too many models for the PSP in a short amount of time, I thought DS was doing better but they are starting to do the same thing now. I think Japan is a big part of the reason they keep doing this. Seems to have a little less effect in the west.

Yeah especially when features are removed or the price goes up makes me hope this business tactic backfires if overused.

Will probably wait until this one comes out before trading my Lite for a DSi. Actually, I'll probably still wait until they release Mario All Stars (or equivalent) and World on the DS / i since I don't want to give up GBA until those games come over.

That looks way too big. I won't even be able to fit that in my pocket. PSP is trying to become as small as the DS and the DS is trying to become as big as the PSP. Wacky world.

I just realized how big it was.... I always thought for some reason that it was around the same size with just a bigger screen, silly me >_>

I'm fine with it. Most places I go to and play my DS I have a backpack with me to put it in. Otherwise I play it at home or I'm somewhere in which I don't want/can't to play it.
