since this is a videogame website I guess I can offer a bit of perspective on the nyse situation sony corp 52 week low for the week ending last week was 15.64. Microsoft was 14.87. The 52 week high for both companies ending last week was 30.67 and 29.35. On the nyse they are operating on the a close level but the companies are really different for one microsofts market cap is 250 billion dollars compared to sonys 30 billion. I dont know about other stock markets though this is strictly usa. but the average volume between the 2 is very different. sony is at over a billion and microsoft is operating at a lil less then 56 million. of course all this is is stocks and really only mean one thing. it puts it into perspective from a investors point of view between the two companies not just gaming.

I'm not martin luther king. I don't have a dream. I have a plan

Sell a man a fish you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish you just ruined a perfect business opportunity.

We didn't emerge out of the stone age because we ran out of stones. Its time to be proactive not reactive.

the entire global stockmarkets have been rising steadily for the last 4 months...

and today Sony jumps becasue its losses arent as big as they feared... it really is as simple as that.

whats your point?

not nessacarily. True markets as a whole have been doing ok, some better than others certain companies that operate within these markets have not which is true anytime sure, but the rate that some companies are recovering is vastly different.

This is both good and bad.

The overall picture for Sony isn't as bad as analysts thought - it's bad but not god awful, hence the rise in stocks. The picture for the Vaio/Walkman/Playstation section is pretty terrible though.

yeah a coupe of cars, thought I'd try thew auction and people seem to want to pay silly prices for them.

Yea I jumped into investment when I moved back to the states at the end of 2008. I will say sony has done quite well for me considering my other investment. I think the casino is a lot better use of my money though lol. Once 2010 hits I'm pulling out only sticking to gold.

Yea I'm working on a camero right now. I want to get at least 29,000 credits out of it but wasn't sure if people had that type of cash yet.

wow SONY haters finally got a reason to pick on PS3 & SONY

the whole two months PS3 was doing fabulous, now finally a reason for hate.

Anyway I'll just say this was all expected.....if anything they have SHIPPED more than I expected & their 13 million target looks approachable, something which people seem to have conviniently forgotten suddenly

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

I don't think its hate. you can't hate on numbers they are facts he made some good points about sony corp that really can't be disputed

@kowenicki

back in march & earlier this year when SONY once made a profit for the quarter

the debate then was "OH they made a profit but they can NEVER ship 13 million hahaha"

now when 13 million is possible

"Oh but they'll make a loss hahahaha"

To me it seems like PEOPLE are moving the goalposts & changing whats important to suit them.....one more thing, your not one of them....but I won't name the people who I have seen doing what I just mentioned.

Fine they are making a loss.....but isn't that what we expected after a price cut & hardware dumoping (phat PS3's). So I don't see how the results are bad at all, they reach expectations, while surpass them for PS3 unit shipments. Thats why the stock went up too

if they are as terrible as people are making them out to be, why did the stock go up as someone pointed out?

one thing i just thought of that contributed to the losses was the clearance of the fats. Those were probably manufactured costing $440, and they sold them at $300.

Only problem is the manufacturing costs were absorbed when the units were actually manufactured.  Most of the Fat PS3s were probably manufactured the previous quarter.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
