Forums - Sales - First day sales in Japan (Bayonetta, Tekken 6, FF Gaiden, S&P2, etc)

So Nintendo is a niche dev now? What have Trace Memory R, Takt of Magic, S&P2, Punch-Out, Captain Rainbow, Disaster DoC, Endless Ocean 2 all got in common? All sold really bad. Why? Because they were all stealth releases. Of course unless you know say that all of those were niche, which would mean than Bayonetta should have bombed this week, but it didn't even though it was really niche, because the game was hyped and advertised.

Just wake me up when Nintendo will actually advertise and generate interest in games that aren't either casual or part of their big franchises.

Bad for everything except Bayonetta.

Goes to show that not even Tekken can bring japanese back to the fighting genre. This series used to sell 1m+ with each installment in Japan. Namco is sure as hell dissapointed now.

Also goes to show that nobody wants old-school RPGs anymore, both new SMT and 4WoL sell terribly.

It's been a long time since Tekken managed numbers like that.  Only Tekken 2 and 3 broke a million in Japan (and they broke it handedly, selling around 1.4 million each).  Tekken Tag only managed around 500k, and the rather mediocre Tekken 4 killed what was left of the franchise's popularity after that.  It barely sold 300k in Japan, and Tekken 5, despite being much improved over 4, wasn't able to bring that popularity back to the series.  It wasn't a game changer like Tekken 3 or Street Fighter II.

At this point, the only way to create a truly break out fighting franchise is to create something incredibly different what else is already on the market, like Super Smash Bros.  Otherwise you'll be stuck selling less than 3 million across all platforms, like Street Fighter IV and Sould Calibur IV

Im sure bayonetta's (_l_) did wonders for the sales.

What Treasure game has ever sold well? Seriously name it. I love the bastards. I want to have like a million of their babies, and sell myself off to finance their latest and greatest projects. Commercial success has never been in the cards though. Sin and Punsihment 2 was always going to sell low numbers in Japan. Always. Trying to use it to prove your point is funny, but also kind sad.

Well, the first one did 130k in Japan and this is unlikely to do half that with these sales.

I'm not predicting doom for the DS. There's barely any games coming from Nintendo themselves and SE, which is the biggest 3rd party publisher on the console in Japan. I'm getting tired of people acting like defensive kids when I'm sharing backed up thoughts.

What's so wrong with Nintendo coming out with a successor to their console by next year? If they aren't, then why haven't they announced any more games for their own platform? Why has SE stopped announcing games for it too?

Come out with a proper counter arguement or be quiet and stop spamming.

It simple you said it earlier stealth releases... you did say that right and you agree thier are doing it so why are you surprise the  are no announcements..... That just make no sense it like you have blind rage at nintendo from third peson perspective if you already awnsered your own question yet ask it any way...

I love fighting games !!! Come on challenge me !

Punch out had million of dollars of advertisement in USA and Europe had commercils on American Idol , channel one and TNT primetime and still did only 500,000 .... when that happens don't think that would tell the c ompany something....

The other  games   have never been big sellers and will never be big sellers even with advertisements.... show a game of the same type that sold 100,000's made which is similiart o S&P2,or Another R this generation on the other consoles...

Endless ocean is million seller what more do you want from it....

Captain Rainbow..... I have no idea probably to japanese for thier own good...

I like Treasure games too and I know they aren't known for being big sellers, but there's no way it should have sold this little. Nintendo didn't actually started sharing media and info until 2 weeks were left till release.

Why can shooters sell better on the 360? I think it's more like a matter of no hype for the games + the userbase not finding games like the ones I named appealing. Punch-Out also bombed in Japan, and there was no reason for it to do so. Something is not being done correctly. Perhaps expecting games to sell by their own is the main problem.

The game was made for the West. Japan getting it first is likely a by-product of the developers rather than a business decision. VC sales got them to make the game after all.

What did you just wirte there? I'm not sure you even quoted the right post. Nowhere do I mentioned stealth releases in that post.

Plus, if you are saying that the DS's successor makes no sense, then you must know something we don't.

HISTORICALLY NINTENDO STOPPED PRODUCING GAMES FOR THEIR PLATFORMS RIGHT BEFORE THE LAUNCH OF THEIR NEXT ONE.

THERE ARE NO MORE GAMES ANNOUNCED FOR THE DS NEXT YEAR, EVEN IN JAPAN. Can you understand it now that it is in caps?

Golden Sun 3 is the only game coming out. Last year, at this time we already knew about multiple games coming out for the DS, now we only have one upcoming game. And it's no coincidence that after DQVI there are no more DS games announced from SE.
