^Actually yeah Monster Hunter was a failure on Wii compared to the PSP versions.

No all that other stuff is crap, if the marker considers a game good, then it will sell, if not then it won't, the highest selling 2D mario's were on consoles, so the idea that NSMB Wii can't outsell the DS version due to demographics and suitability is stupid, if it doesn't outsell the DS version, then it'll be because the market didn't consider it as good at the DS version

It's not about failure because of a bad transition to console to handheld or vice versa.
You were generalizing the decline of the whole franchise because an iteration didn't perform aswell on a different platform.
And you were using that assumption as evidence as to why the PS3 version wont sell.

Here's another analogy.
GT psp didn't do aswell as the older GT's.
Does that mean that the franchise is in decline?
Not necessarily.
Does it mean the console GT version will not create a hardware bump or beat GT4 sales?
Seems unlikely considering how much people are anticipating it's release.

As you can see, it's an illogical fallacy to assume that it's an "end all" indicator of future sales or a decline in the franchise in general.

Now I'm not saying that Tekken 6 will sell boat loads considering into account the lack of hype for the game, but I doubt PSP sales for one iteration of the game is a good base to build upon for your argument.

Ah, but i'm not ust using the PSP version, the PSP version is part of a trend, Tekken 5 sold less than 4 and Dark sold less than 5, now might 6 sell more, sure, but if not, it'll just show that there is a downward trend

Yes, Tekken 5 did indeed sell less than 4 but it's a negligible amount which is inside the margin of error in sales tracking which is 10%.
Even if VGC is 100% accurate a difference of less that 10% between their sales would count more as "in-line" instead of "Decline".

Now portable sales we've mentioned is not an accurate representation of a console franchise's popularity or sales power as seen in GTA and GT.

So with that said, I really don't see a downward trend with this franchise in the PS2 era and it's hardware moving capabilities should not be discounted because of said trend.

To a certian person in this thread....Don't do drugs. You know who you are.

I skimmed through this thread.

Has Avinash come out and said anything about Famitsu, Media Create, and Dengeki all reported that PS3 outsold Wii by a decent margin?

@outlawauron

he said as we'r on VGC their figures should be believed

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

@JapanMan4:

Why not? A lot of games have iterations that sell more on handheld, and some vice versa, its not the system that's the issue, its the games, and what the market perceives as their quality

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wha?

Regardless of region, you should always take as much data and as many reports as possible to get a clearer picture of reality.

@Avinash_Tyagi

Do you even play fighters? As a huge fan of the genre I think it's ridiculous that you expect a handheld version of a game intended to be played on big screen head to head with an arcade stick to perform as well as the console version. I'm not even a fan of Tekken, but using the PSP version as an example of how the series is in decline is a joke.

Seems to me that the last couple of console versions of Tekken sold 300 - 400k in Japan, if Tekken 6 sells different to that then I'll accept that there is a change in the popularity of the series, but single digit percentage differences between versions doesn't signify any signifigant change in popularity whatsoever.

^Actually it would be 20K different, much bigger than single digit between 4 and 5, and you can argue that the PSP version isn't representative, but that would be an issue with devs not being able to develop a good game on the PSP, not the system itself.

We'll know in a few weeks how well it performed.

@outlawauron, when other figures say one thing and VGC says another, and ioi doesn't change it, then I take it as VGC numbers trumping the others
