Forums - Sales - Worldwide Hardware Week of October 18-25, 2009.

@CGI

Yep. I can see +2m by xmas for uncharted2.

OT: Wii stills hammers the opposition.

PS3: isn't it funny how those anti-PS3 threads about "next week" has disappeared.

x360: xboxers brag about x360 being a shooter's console so don't feel too badly about forza,

afterall it's not a driving sim console.

I will be man enough however, to take into account that it is based on 2 days NA sales.

He thinks Wii Fit will outsell the GTA franchise don't take him seriously

Ah, I see you are employing the old Ad Hominem attack, the last refuge of one who is unable to address the points themselves

Hey, you're the one who puts up predictions that won't ever come true. Don't get mad if other people point them out.

Pointing them out isn't the problem its when you fail to address the points of the relevant argument, and instead try and use the predictions as an argument

It's not that.

It's that you refused to see the logic of 2 games with over 100k preorders being able to move a lot of consoles in Japan.

Preorders don't equal hardware sales, as you don't preorder hardware when you preorder the game, for all you know the preorders came from PS3 current owners, hence my point there was no support of the argument that these games will move hardware, and I was asking for the reasons why you guys believe it will move hardware

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

How about a bet?

I bet Tekken 6 and Bayonetta will push PS3 ahead of Wii next week in Japan. Sig control for a month.

Do you accept?

Since you are not good at predicting, at least learn from history. Japan is moved by software, price drop and new colors. The PS3 has always depended on software, big or not. It wont be a big boost, but it will grow somehow.

Pointing them out isn't the problem its when you fail to address the points of the relevant argument, and instead try and use the predictions as an argument

I made my argument, which addressed your points completely, and he added by pointing out that you often make incorrect and wild predictions. Je doesn't need to argue with you when I've already addressed your points fully, and frankly, your predictions are an argument against your logic in themselves.

No you didn't, you got whiny and said: Okay then, a couple extra thousand consoles sold. Not hard stuff. Can you just admit that maybe the PS3 will outsell the Wii? Geez. How is that addressing my points? You said its not hard stuff, but didn't show why, and then you whined about whether I can admit something or not

Oh yes, whining was it? In my original post, I still pointed out that that two games that sell over 100k can easily move a couple thousand consoles. And when you claimed that I'd need to account for dropoffs, I said it would be only a couple extra thousand at best. Maybe it sounded like whining because you're so attached to the Wii that you're in serious denial, and it's frankly frustrating to argue with you. Besides, the Wii could just as easily have dropoffs, and it's not like Tekken is a small series in Japan (even if the numbers have fallen from previous iterations). And besides, for what seems like weeks, you've constantly been pushing the idea that software is just about the only force behind moving hardware. So isn't it very possible that two big games debuting to over 100k each will move a decent amount of hardware? Or are you throwing your own policy out the window when it suits you?

Call me a whiner all you want, but you're still wrong and I'm still right.

So what does everyone think now, can Uncharted 2 do 2mill by Dec 31?

YES CGI! I think that it will. I didn't ignore you, I was in class

This thread was kind of funny to read just now. The insane person thinking "most Americans think MW2 is X360 exclusive" needs to attend the research and statistics class I just had to endure. Actually no they problem shouldn't, they would get a failing grade with that logic.

The dog/cat thread in the middle made me laugh.

Carl is a hottie. <random insanity stalking>

Hmmm, interesting sales all the way around. I hate Wii but MIGHT break down and get one this holiday or early next year. Only a few games interest me on it, will have to wait and see.

Haven't you read my opinions on bets in the past? I never do bets, in fact I think they are stupid. (search my post history you'll see)

No, all you said was they can, move a couple thousand, you never showed that they will, then when I pointed out that they'd have to move more than a few thousand you just said it would be easy, again you never showed that they would, you just kept pulling the goalposts. I never said just any software will move hardware, just like Wii fit plus didn't move much hardware. You say you are right, but my point was you didn't show anything to support, you just said you were right and got upset when I didn't believe you without some support.

And maybe it might be, I never said it wouldn't sell, I asked whether it could and asked to see the evidence supporting people's claims, the idea that software, price drops, new colors and Skus move hardware is not new, nor isolated to japan, but plenty of software has been released that didn't move many consoles, because people who bought already owned the consoles, so when people say PS3 will beat the Wii next week, I ask to see what reasoning they are using to support that. Interesting, that people immediately felt as if I was saying it would not, when in fact I was asking for a reason why it would.
