Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto loves Star Fox disappointed in series' declining sales

Shigeru Miyamoto has made some pretty incredible video game experiences, many of which will go down as the best video games of all time. But that doesn't mean he hasn't been disappointed with the reaction to some of his games. In a recent interview, I asked the Mario creator if there were any titles which didn't quite have the public support that he would've expected at their release:

"I tend to forget those games [laughs]. I'm a big fan of the 'Star Fox' games. Every time we make a 'Star Fox' game I'm hoping people will enjoy it as much as I do. Of course the goal every time is to try and make it more and more fun but, at least in Japan, the people that purchase the 'Star Fox' games has decreased over the years. But we still try to make them more fun and hopefully people will see the appeal in those games."

So, in case you're wondering if Nintendo will ever return to the true 3rd person flight sim roots of "Star Fox," just keep in mind that there's someone very high up in the ranks that wants nothing more than to see folks do a barrel roll.

I didn't realize Star Fox games were in Decline sales wise I am still hoping for a Wii release.

What does he mean? When did we have a starfox game that had its sales too low?

When furries arrived:

I blame furries for the debacle of Sonic franchise too.

Star Fox 64 and Assault were the best in the series. They had the best flying parts the series and I played them the most. Command was a big dissapointment. Make the game we've been waitng for with turning the Wiimote to fly and do barrel rolls. By the way 64 had a first person mode.

I agree. Despite being out of place in the series, it is my favorite star fox, and a really good action-adventure.

Who cares if the series is dying in Japan? Most of the sales come from outside Japan, he should know that already.

Look at the Metroid franchise for example, dead in Japan, but selling millions outside.

To me it looks more like an excuse than anything else.

Proud poster of the 10000th reply at the Official Smash Bros Update Thread.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

i call bullshit on lastgengamer.

you cant just come here and make a statement that you talked to miyamoto. i am going to need a little bit more evidence than you just telling me. im sure everyone else feels the same. you obviously havent been here long enough.

I could never get passed the arm wrestling part though

Forget Krystal, forget the furries. Just reboot the series with Star Fox 64 with online mode and presto.
