Actually I think that Edge has better rating system than example IGN. They don't give over 9 scores like candy. They give 9 points if the game is truly almost a masterpiece in their opinion.

You're going to leave a site if they don't give a 9+ to a game you think deserves it based on videos?  I mean hell, you haven't even played the game yet.

You don't see the issue with that?

You don't see the oppurtunity?

Give NSMB Wii a score of 8 something.

Give it 8.9, just to make a point.

Ummm, don't really see that.

They added 4 person co-op and some new powers like the helmet thing. But overall, it's very much the same game. Which is a 2D Mario...

IMO, online play would have made this game a real upgrade.

why? Online play would have done nothing to change the way the game itself is played, just made it much easier to do multiplayer.

 

There are no major overhauls, but there are a lot of key differences that go beyond the more synthetic stuff of new items and whatnot.

I agree, but to a lesser extent. I think this game is diffrent and improved in multiple aspects (just from what I've seen) but I think it missed out on offering alot more. I think online should have been done for this game. And because it doesn't have online, IMO potential was lost.

That's where I think this review is coming from. It's great but could've been more.

I'd agree, since that's more my style, but then the games they end up giving 9/10's are completely off.

Some examples I recall are MKWii / WSR / FFX at 6, EBA at 7, then GTAIV at 10, etc.

Not my thing.

Seriously though, not a big deal. I believe there were several review sources gave gave Mario Kart Wii 7s and low 8s and yet it remains my favorite Wii game alongside Smash Bros. There is absolutely nothing that can deter me from buying this game, Mario is my all time favorite series.

Plus many big Wii games that receive low review scores tend to do phenomenal in sales for some odd reason (Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Fit, Wii Sports Resort, Mario Kart Wii, Game Party, Carnival Games, etc..) so maybe this is a good sign for NSMB Wii.

True, besides what is a review but a glorified opinion, the only review I care about, is the one when I get that controller in my hands and get to try it myself

Let me translate for Edge.

"The game had tons of content, co-op play and was fun. But we had to make them all sound bad because it was a Wii game."
