Forums - Sales - Did the price cut really helps the PS3 and the Wii? Or its just temporary?

PS3 was selling less than 125k a week WW, now since the price cut they are selling 2x that much, so yeah the price cut was worth it.
Sony will worry about total WW sales when the PS3 hit $199, because I really don't think they expected the PS3 to outsell the 360 or the Wii world wide total anytime soon.

seem thats a good indication so far though what about the Wii? I keep asking this and yet what everyone keeps saying here was just counter my arguements. The question was: Did the Wii hardware gave a boost or not? Cant answer straight.

Also the Cell processor went from 65nm on the 'fat' ps3 to 45nm for slim.

PS3 avg. sales: 100k. After pricecut: 200-250k
Wii avg. sales: 200k. After pricecut: 300-350k

an why would they!

yea. The way i see it,

this is not a race who can sale the most system's in the shortest amount of time, its about who can sale the most systems over the longest amount of time. because this generation is not like the prev. generation of system's. Not to say you alway's will be able to do what you are trying to do but its indeed the goal.

think about this:

when the ps2 launched the ps1 was still selling great

when the ps3 launched the ps2 was an is still selling pretty good for the age of the system

when the next new playstation system launches the ps3 will still be selling well.

the same with the xbox360 when a new Microsoft system launches

an the same with the Wii when a new Nintendo system launches

the major point this generation over prev. generation system's it is that they are less

"static"

that is the system's can get more function's added over time without needing a hardware upgrade.

by that very same ability it will no doubt increase the life of the system's on the market.

Microsoft

Nintendo

Sony

all three know this

to me I just do not see the need of a rush to get the next generation started, and even if it does start soon the sale's of

these current systems are not going away anytime soon.

In my Opinion the online component offered for these system's will play a big role in making sure these system's stick around

so to be blunt

the This system needing to "have a certain number of sale's" in order to be Viable system or risk it having a short life in the current generation is moot now.

"the none of the 3 system's have that problem" and they all will remain  very Viable as a purchase for consumer's forward even when new systems release, just for the very fact the Online component maintain's the Viability of function over.

"perceived obsolescence"

Definitely, you're only looking at the US when you say the ps3 only outsold the 360 by 100,000.  And keep in mind that the 360 was outselling the ps3 by a decent amount before the price cut so the difference is actually quite a bit more than 100,000.  The Wii is a different story.  It's a monster and personally, I wouldn't have even dropped the price yet.  I would have waited until closer to Christmas and until a major release to get the hype going....it's not like anybody was going to "catch up" with it anytime soon.

If we talking about america or worldwide ?

Because if you look at VGC numbers wii numbers are increasing week after week in america after the pricecut which mean it works if do a price cut and numbers increase then continue to increase then it it's job as of now....we need to see long term sales if worth all together.I'm question the timing of this thread this thread should be created later after the christmas holiday so we can compare YOY sales.....

Ps3 doesn't need to argue about the pricecut is working

I ask you does it matter THAT MUCH?

Wii the Wii be discontinued anytime soon even when a new Nintendo system get's released?

I doubt it will, the very fact that The Wii has sold so many system's in a short amount of Time and continues to sell at very high number's every month. is what matter's.

yes you alway's want to sale more system's, but to be blunt the very fact that there is so many choices on the market for game system's Even Nintendo is up against its self.

the IDEA of lets remove the other product's Nintendo offer and just point out sale's of only one part of their companies product line is kind of moot. you can make it a pro/con on how well the company is doing. the very fact that Nintendo have not only 2 other product's in their line that compete with the Wii. but also

Sony's product line's

Microsoft's xbox360

but also the PC industry also.

this generation has many of the companies all in direct comp. not only themselves but other's moreso than prev. generation's because there is so much more product's on the market that are in direct comp. with any new product you release. I think there is just a saturation already of the game product's in general. TOO many already and right now there is going to be a stiffness of future growth of expansion in the market, not as flexable due to the product's out there are all Viable choice for consumer's and demand has stayed pretty good for all of the product's.

I just think it's very unrealistic to view any one of the game system companies to run away with the market and it will most likely remain that way due to the very fact that too many of the product's offer have sale's that have made them all good selling product's that none of the product's are being so far left behind that it would remove that product out of the market.

What i mean ddi the pricecut gave Wii a hardware boost or not.

@zorrox---- Im citing official numbers here and so far atleast in Media create seem the Wii(not PS3 mind you) only stabilized the sales there with 20,000+ weekly sales so far. And thats after the price cut. What more if its not the holiday season months. Oct-Dec.Nothing mentioned on hardware sales on official numbers in PAL areas so far, and theres no hype or news about the price cut in NA yet. Even a news about Wii's hardware sales. Though we will know in this week's NPD but I doubt it outmatch the sales of October 2008.

Im not sure if increasing the userbase was the right term, more like a impulse buyer. And its natural, its always like this when a company pricecut their product whether you will need it or not afterwards. So we're not sure if the ones buying the Wii and PS3 because of the pricecut are really using the product.

But overall, seem the pricecut mania had fizzled. theres no hype or news on it afterwards. After 2 weeks its always like other every week when console sales were concerned. And we will know it in October NPD. If either of the 2 consoles didnt double or triple the sales after the pricecut the pricecut isnt worth it after all. Just remember, PS3 sells for about 490,000+ while the Wii sells 462,000.

PS3 was averaging 100k before the cut, it is averaging little over 200k now, how can you even make such an argument ????????

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Lets see:

PS3 price cut -:

Effect compared to sales last year ------- SALES WAY UP YOY

COmpared to competition ------ WAY ahead of 360 weekly.....below wii after it got its price cut

Wii Price cut :-

Effect compared to sales last year ----- TERRIBLE its down YOY still

COmpared to competition ----- WAY ahead of 360 & ahead of PS3

_____________

Price cut REALLY REALLY helped PS3....

Price cut "just" heped the wii
