Forums - Sales - The difficulty of selling a Wii

Heheh, sorry cdude, but strong arguments can be made to the contrary; Morals ain't relative. Personal moral codes are, but that does not show that morals are. I'll let the C.S. Lewis quote present my point.

Edit - I wouldn't want to take this thread off topic any more than it basically has been for the last 5 pages, so you can PM me if you'd care to actually hear such arguments. And if not, I won't lose sleep.

"Whenever you find a man who says he doesn't believe in a real Right and Wrong, you will find the same man going back on this a moment later."   -C.S. Lewis

Prediction: Wii passes 360 in US between July - September 2008. (Wii supply will be the issue to watch, and barring any freak incidents between now and then as well.) - 6/5/08; Wow, came true even earlier. Wii is a monster.

Well they could have enjoyed quicker and cheaper if you didn't hoard it.

I hope you see the moral wrongs of your ways.

Morals are relative. Apparently as is hoarding. I bought one (1) Wii.

Morals are relative?

 Yes morals are relative.

Let's use the Catholic church as a prime example here. Their official stance is that sex before marriage is completely and totally wrong and amoral, but to most of secular society, there's nothing wrong with it.

That was fun, let's try something else.

Suppose you've grown up in a poor family where you've seen you older siblings steal stuff so you can have dinner that night, are you more likely to think that stealing is ok now that you've seen big brother pawn a set of golf clubs? You bet your canned refried beans you are.

So yes. Morals are completely relative, most likely tied to how you were raised. See: Nature vs. Nurture.

Buisness Ethics however are not.

Morals/taboos are EXTREMELY relative. Anthropologists (of which, I am one) have found only one moral/taboo that seems to be universal through hundreds of years of studying different cultural groups throughout the entire world. That one thing (the incest taboo) is even on shaky ground, because family relationships are different in different parts of the world. What the U.S. considers as incest is quite different than what a native Hawaiian or an Eskimo thinks is incest.

"Human equality is a contingent fact of history. Equality is not true by definition; it is neither an ethical principle (though equal treatment may be) nor a statement about norms of social action. It just worked out that way. A hundred different and plausible scenarios for human history would have yielded other results (and moral dilemmas of enormous magnitude). They didn't happen." - Stephen Jay Gould

Systems I currently own (in order of preference): PS2, SNES, Gamecube, Xbox 360, Genesis, Nintendo DS, PSX, XBOX, Wii, PS3,  Atari 5200, Turbo-Grafx 16, NES, Gameboy, Game Gear, 32X.

Yes, but the fact that one person or culture thinks or believes something is right or wrong does not show how that *makes* it right or wrong for that person or culture to do it; it just shows that they accept it. Please, PM me if you want to discuss. Otherwise let's agree to disagree; I've already debated this topic on the forum at great length. This thread really needs to die anyway.

OK, I give up. I was wrong, again. The Free Market is not moral. Helping means hurting. Providing a service = being a parasite.

Bare with me, I am still learning to accept my new overlord, emotion. All hail emotion!

Nice. You come in after you think everyone is gone so you can vomit out idiocy and proclaim victory over everyone who had the guts to stick it out and have an actual debate.

You can go right to hell, and Ron Paul too.

Everyone is gone? I don't know. I went to work and so much no stuff posted I could not keep up. It is not like I didn't make several posts. Anyway, like I said, you win, I lose. Call it a fillabuster or whatever you want but clearly I cannot hack it.

About hell, I do not think it is real but I like what you said, it proves that emotion did win :)

Logic won the debate; emotion just got pissed off at you coming in here and acting like two lines of meaningless sarcasm trumps pages of rational debate on BOTH sides of the argument.

Next post I see from you had better rebut the various points that have been made in the thread, especially mine, or you admit through omission that you have no decent counterpoints. Or you can just slink back to wherever you went to when you left the thread the first time, and not admit anything at all.

A wise choice, though also a cowardly one.

I was about to say the same exact thing.  Are people still arguing whether or not cdude and the likes are douches or have they moved onto something else?  (don't have internet at home and generally don't bother reading long posts or series of posts at work)

There was a giant debate about whether cdude was a "parasite to the market", which I won against all comers in the second half of Page 4 and beginning of Page 5.

After that, cdude got some advice on what to say in his ebay page, posted his ebay page (without the link), there was a short exchange on business morality, and I scared off a libertarian troll. Then people started randomly posting asking why the tread's not dead. Answer: It mostly is.

[edit:  no internet at home!?  And you have over 2000 posts!  Impressive.]

Whatever, we were just tired of arguing against a brick wall.

Hey cdude you should probably print out this thread and use it as a pickup method when you're out at bars and stuff. I bet you'll get all the wimminz when they see you're a business savvy, ethical Wii scalper. That and the condescending humor about it is like a 1-2 dynamo punch of irresistible charm. Random post snippets would probably make great Christmas cards, too, I'm sure your parents would be proud of their lil budding businessman.

Something along the lines of:
"I'm not a dick, I'm an opportunist. MERRY CHRISTMAS!"

Anyway I've been coming to this site and lurking these forums long enough. Hello everyone!
