Forums - Sales - Boom Blox Bash Party was a MAJOR flop - we need to talk about it

EA really has a habit of giving gamers the feeling that their games are for dumb people. Things like the All Play label, making games that don't need at all look cute and falling for the years old forum joke that Wii games with "party" in their name become automatic million sellers.

And of course an honorable mention goes to Dead Space Extraction, a game that was set up for failure.

In the same vein as Boom Blox Bash Party's name, I think Dead Space Extraction's box "art" hurt and will continue to hurt that game's sales. I received the game a few days ago, and was horrified (not in a good way - in a meh way) by both the cover and the back of the box. It was all so bad that never in a million years would I have picked this game up in a store had I not read in advance about it. The box cover and back screamed TRASH. Good job, EA, of scaring away the impulse buy shoppers. Frankly the combination of the front and back is so bad that had I gone to a store to buy it (instead of ordering it online), I would possibly have decided to buy something else instead...

I have never played Boom Blox, am I lucky?

You must be wearing a necklace made out of four leaf clovers and horseshoes.

I don't want to say too much but...

The creator of Bloom Blox, Lou Castle, is my boss. He commented about BB and BBBP on his introductory speech to our company since it was his last project at EA prior to coming to us.

To sum it up:

VGC is way, way off. According to what I heard BBBP > BB in terms of success. That is all I'll say. I know a bit more but I don't want to breach my NDA. Sufficive to say, I had no idea VGC had BBBP cited at such a number.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I suspected as much. NPD has the game way, way higher too (over twice as high last time I checked).

I lol'd. Even you, someone so close to the game, makes that ol' "Bloom Blox" error. They could've picked a better name.

...

Sorry. Informative post!

I know you can't go into more detail about the sales data itself, but if you don't mind, could you say if the success part is purely due to data, or does the fact that Bash Party is (presumably) far cheaper to develop play a major role?

Both.

Cool. Thanks!
