So Activision plans on screwing up the single greatest of all time now?

Wonderful...

What? Activision are screwing up Half-Life 2?!

After being out for over ten years GoldenEye is still discussed as being one of the greatest FPS of all time.  Over ten years from now, Half-Life 2 wont be.

Only by Nintendo fans.

Half Life 2 and in particular the Source engine it's built on has spawned the following:

HL2 Episodes 1,2 and eventually 3

Team Fortress 2

Counter Strike Source

Day Of Defeat

Portal

This is why Half Life 2 is the greatest FPS of all time, GoldenEye was a great console shooter but nothing legendary, Halo took the genre further forward than GoldenEye.  Half Life 2 will be talked of in the same vein as Doom and Quake (both over 10 years old), GoldenEye will be forgotten within 10 years.  I have to question if you've even played HL2 making such a ridiculous claim....

Critically speaking check Metacritic:

Half Life 2 has 96 with over 81 reviews, GoldenEye the same score with only 21.  Once you take into account the technology HL2 created (it launched the Steam platform, Havok physics engine) then it really isn't even close.

Yeah. Okay. GoldenEye is only discussed by Nintendo fans.

It only gave birth to the multiplayer shooter on ALL consoles. It will never be forgotten and is a much better game than Doom or Quake IMO. Your claim that it will be is ridiculous.

Halo? Please... great advertising is what made that game successful and unfortunately that game will be remembered more than Half Life 2.

ROFLMAO, I think you need to play another FPS sometime, perhaps actually buy a 360, PS3 or PC and play The Orange Box.

I have played shooters for both the 360 and PS3.  The aiming with a joystick is exactly like GoldenEye.  Sad but true.

PC shooters with a keyboard and mouse are good control wise, but I prefer aiming and shotting with a Wii Remote the most.

I lol'd that you thought Half-life 2 won't be remembered in 10 yrs time. It's only heralded as one of the greatest FPS games of all time, and is already in people's minds far more than Goldeneye.

Orginal Half-Life: 1996

Half-Life 2: 2004 + Counterstrike: Source which thousands of people still play today, they'll remember Half-life 1&2 for many yrs solely for this. How many people are still playing Goldeneye? Oh wait, it came out before consoles had online!

Since Half-life 2: Episode 1, Ep 2, Portal, Orange Box.

Anyway, aiming in Goldeneye was very different as you didn't have 2 analog sticks, manual aiming was controlled by the 4C buttons instead.  I think you've got a bit of a selective memory as aiming now has evolved a fair bit on consoles vs Goldeneye. You may well prefer aiming with the Wii remote but their are many, many more people who prefer keyboard and mouse or dual analog.

It was a great game for the time and is fondly remembered by those who played it (especially Nintendo fans). But, it seems doubtful it'll acheive much more than that. Half-Life and Valve has a strong loyal fanbase and has had multiple releases of both the orginal game and the sequel to warrant it staying in the minds of many people for years to come. Half-Life 1 stayed in people's minds as it was a revolution in Single-Player FPS games and remained there for 8 yrs (and was played for that period) before the sequel came out. The innovation it brought, mods and the episodes ensure that Half-Life 2 will be spoken about for many years to come.

It won't be the same unless it happens to Get Down:

You could move with the C-Buttons leaving aiming to the analog, wich was actually close to todays console shooters.

Yeah, Half Life and HL2 are great and among the greatest FPSs of all time, sure, and the source engine did give life to a few good games (even if I think the "original" CS was better than CS:Source), but Goldeneye was a great game too and is still playable nowadays, local multiplayer is still fun, so I think you downplayed it a bit too much.

Both games will be talked about, as both are great, influential games, even if HLs will may be talked more for the fact that they're a franchise while Goldeneye was a single game.

About aim options, keyboard and mouse is the faster one, but I'm not sure why would someone prefer dual analog over it or the Wiimote.
