The wii 's install base is double the ps3's, but the thing is ps3 3rd party sales have been slightly better than the wii's.

But what happens when "Joe" who has a Wii keeps hearing about this great game that is made by a 3rd party dev and is only on one or both of the other consoles with no plans to make it for the Wii since their first Wii game (which was for example a multi platform game) bombed while the other two consoles got solid sales? |
This scenario seems to be working in reverse.
What happens when "Thrillhouse" bought a PS3 and they decide... hey... it's not profitable to put a game on this system? I know, I know... something like that could never hap... oh... damn.
Predictions For Last Full Week of Sales in 2010)
WII - 80.35 Million
360 - 43.88 Million
PS3 - 41.40 Million
More terrible predictions coming Jan. 2011!!!
No duh Soriku. Wii's install base is bigger. Compare attach ratio and you'll get a better answer.

lol ?
at least 90% of the ps3 games have bombed, and that includes 1st party games. With most wii games, including 3rd party ones, making good profits.

Attach ratio is about the same. No?
Yes.
So PS3 games sell as good as wii games.
But Wii games outselling PS3 games is a stupid arguement becuase you compare attach ratios to see which software sells better, not sales.

And when you get it you will cry because the casuals have taken over and the non-gamers are all to blame for playing their non-games. Either way it is a lose-lose for Wii supporters: either the Wii will fail or it will only win because teh casuals have stormed the hardcore castle. I don't know why we bother to formulate replies anymore. What we've been saying since e3 '06 has come to pass and still you think we can't see the forest for the trees. Something has changed in the videogame paradigm. This is neither fad nor fashion...it's just fun. WiiSports has changed lives. Brain Age and Nintendogs have as well. But don't worry...you will get to keep your hardcore market...it isn't going anywhere. The Wii will never have a Gears of War or a Halo 3. It will never have a Metal Gear Solid 4. But that won't stop it from becoming a dominant force this generation. If you can get to the point that you can understand that simple fact you will enjoy this generation a whole lot more. Don't fear the Wii...it is not a threat to the hardcore crowd. It only helps to define the hardcore even more. |
I'm starting to feel like the the hardcore gamers are the equivalent of country club folk. You gotta pay a high price to get in but you get the feeling of being something a lot of people aren't. So of course, when another club opens which a cheaper price of admission they say "God I hate those common people, they ruin everything."

I think from a financial perspective, total sales is the final arbiter of the success of a product, but from a marketing perspective, attach rate is more important since it attempts to separate the success of the game from the success of the console.
