Forums - Nintendo - Pachter : Wii HD Coming 'FALL 2010' -- Do you agree?!

I certainly hope hes wrong. The wii has only been out 4 years and already people started talking about nintendo's next console.

The wii is doing just fine. So a wii 2 is not needed. The next generation of consoles should arrive atleast 2016. That would satisfy the longetivity of the current generation's life cycle.

If the attitude that Nintendo takes from here on out is one of "we're the best, we don't have to pay attention to any market trend, we're just going to keep this on cruise control" ... they may not lose their marketshare today. They may not lose it tomorrow.

But if they're going to have a passive, arrogant attitude like that, eventually it will bite them the ass. It's the exact some sh-tty attitude they had when looking at the Genesis or the Playstation ... you don't get anything for being cocky in this industry (quite the opposite).

It's like a boxer ... even if you're the better fighter, if you come into the ring and give the other guy a lot of time and space, you're eventually gonna get knocked on the jaw pretty damn hard and probably find yourself on the canvas. You give Sony and MS that much time and space to formulate against you and eventually they are going to come up with something. Again maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but eventually.

Nintendo is in a good spot right now. The worst possible thing they could do right is rest on their laurels. There's no downside to being aggressive whatsoever.

Look at what Apple has done with the iPod brand ... they've continually improved it and kept it fresh and ahead of the competetion. No one can keep up and now pretty much no one even tries. But they could've sat on their ass and been happy with the regular ol' black and white clickwheel iPod. Stay hungry, stay aggressive. Never take your audience or your competetion for granted. That's how you stay on top.

There's aggressive and then there's stupid, killing a cash cow when you don't have to is stupid, there' no need to update the Wii or release next gen console any time soon, better to wait and see you opponents hand before revealing your own

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

It was released in Japan years before, and saying fully released in 86 in NA is just proving my point, you're trying to shoehorn the data into what you want, why is the NA dates any more important than the Japanese dates? N64 wasn't a revolution, 3D was already in existence on the PC and even the SNES, N64 was just an evolution of the hardware The only reason they killed the GBA cash cow was because of the PSP, they needed to cut off Sony's new hardware, but Sony and MS aren't launching new consoles in 2010 and probably won't in 2012 either, so no need to cut them off.

N64 was a revolution it was the first fully 3D platform. You can argue all you want that their were already 3D games on PC and SNES. True their was StarFox and their was SuperStarWars etc...etc... but Nintendo's N64 was the first platform based around 3D! Just take a look at Mario64 and then look at 3D games like Donkey Kong Country and StarFox. The N64 was a revolution in every sense of the word!

Are you saying Nintendo knew about the PSP before we did? Nintendo chose to launch the DS because it was at the end of the GBA's life cycle. They had the DS ready and Sony knew Nintendo would be starting another generation really soon. Sony based the PSP's launch around the DS not the other way around. Unless you want to suggest that Sony and Nintendo talk to each other and rig the industry?

I am fairly confident theirs a 50/50 chance we will see the NextBox revealed at E3 2010. That is five years for Microsoft (Which said in 2005 that the X-Box 360 would have a four year life cycle). So its already over due. I'm fairly confident that Natal might launch with a whole new platform in fall 2010!

Hopefully it will be an add-on! Something that we can plug into, or sheath over, the Wiimote. Maybe it will strap onto our feet! No, too late, already have something for that. I know! It'll go on our heads for perfect head-tracking. We'll just insert the new HD discs into or oral cavity and the fun will explode from there!

Seriously, this should just plug right into the Wii itself, because Sega had so much success with that formula.

I know I'm trolling, Pachter does that to me. I just don't see why they would introduce a new console when the Wii is still clearly #1. It would divide and confuse their customer base. And, if it's an add-on like Natal, or the 3mote, I don't see it pushing enough attachment for developers to take it seriously. Even the ludicrous sales of Wii Fit haven't given us much more than a few gimmicks like Raving Rabids butt-controlled mini-games.

That's not a revolution, what you defined is an evolution, moving from partial 3d to full 3d is evolution They knew that Sony was working on its own handheld, that's why they released the DS, wrong, Nintendo didn't launch the DS because it was the end of the GBA lifecycle, they launched it because they wanted to respond to Sony, they are always working on new Hardware, so yeah they had a system being set up, but the fact is the DS phat was rushed because of the PSP, otherwise they would have waited to release a smaller more elegant DS like the lite. Look at the announcement dates, PSP was announced at E3 2003, DS in November of 2003, PSP was announced first

Interesting point of view: so we could think about girlfriends as add-ons?

In the third annual Game Crazy Holiday Gift Tracker, conducted by Weekly Reader Research, more than 1,000 teens and tweens were asked to reveal the video games they want most this season. "Action" and "music" emerged as the hot game categories for 2009, with the most-desired titles including Guitar Hero 5, Wii Sports Resort, New Super Mario Brothers and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. For an added twist, Game Crazy also looked at the most popular games based on personality type, ranging from "girly girl" to "all things sport" to "music addict," in an effort to guide parents.

Most-Wanted Games Across Age and Gender
Girls and boys are largely in agreement on the hottest games of the season, with musical phenomenon Guitar Hero 5 and the expansive sports action of Wii Sports Resort, leading the pack. The four most-wanted games overall are:

* Guitar Hero 5 (Rated T) - 48 percent
* Wii Sports Resort (Rated E) - 44 percent
* New Super Mario Brothers (Rated E) - 41 percent
* Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (Rated E) - 33 percent

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun ... on Wuhu Island
What girl doesn't want to hang out at a beach resort? While both Guitar Hero 5 and New Super Mario Brothers are wildly popular choices, girls across all age groups want to get in on the resort-themed activities available with Wii Sports Resort.

Girls

* 8-10 Years-Old
o Wii Sports Resort (Rated E) - 56 percent
o New Super Mario Brothers (Rated E) - 49 percent
o Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (Rated E) - 44 percent

* 14-17 Years-Old

Boys are a Mixed Bag
More than 50 percent of boys said they often play games they know have an Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) rating above their age. This finding is reinforced by the list of games that boys want most. While the top games of the year are popular across age groups, a few titles with mature ratings performed favorably in certain age categories, including Call of Duty (46 percent) and Halo 3 ODST (39 percent).

"As Game Crazy's survey indicates, it's not unusual for younger kids to want to play what the older kids are playing. Parents need to understand that not all video games are intended for younger players," explained Patricia Vance, president of the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), which assigns age and content ratings for computer and video games. "The ESRB ratings provide guidance about content and age-appropriateness so parents can make sure the games their kids play are suitable for their age. And if a parent wants more information than what is on the package, they can search at ESRB.org and find a game's rating summary, which provides additional detail about game content."

Additionally, the expert staff at Game Crazy will demo games in-store for parents before a purchase is complete. The "try before you buy" option lets parents make the decision on whether or not the content is appropriate. Parents with an iPhone or iPod touch can also download the free Game Crazy video game app and search game ratings, browse detailed information on video games, watch game trailers, and receive new, used and trade-in pricing for games.

Personality Impacts Gaming Choices
Game preferences are largely dependent on the personality of the child. Still, without fail, the most-wanted games of the season reigned supreme across interest types.

* "Girly Girl" - Enjoys being indoors and loves fashion and all things pretty
o Top game: Wii Sports Resort (Rated E) - 57 percent
* "Music Addict" - If they had their way they would never stop listening to their iPod
o Top game: Guitar Hero 5 (Rated T) - 57 percent
* "All Things Sports" - Loves all sports and if they're not playing one, they're watching a game
o Top game: Wii Sports Resort (Rated E) - 54 percent
* "The Adventurer" - Loves to be outdoors, enjoying any new mystery or adventure
o Top game: New Super Mario Brothers (Rated E) - 46 percent

Know Your Systems
Equally important is ensuring the game is for the right system. The 2009 survey reveals that 66 percent of kids plan to ask for a new video game system this holiday season. Game Crazy recommends when choosing a system, parents should consider the following:

* The most desired systems for the season are Nintendo DSi (24 percent), followed by PS3 and Wii both at 21 percent

SD graphics DO NOT MATTER to their audience.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Everyday theres a thread on the homepage about xx console's next release date Nintendo has the most by far, and every thread, theres a crap load of replies, aren't you lot tired of this shit?
