Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Week announcement: Netflix to Wii?

I wonder if the hardware would be compatible with SDXC with a firmware update, if it does then that's the future of console storage for sure since you can get 2 terabytes outta that thing lol.

It seems to me that SD as well as other card memories, are getting both cheaper and bigger. I remember only a few years ago a 2gb SD card costed about $20-30. Today, they cost around $5-10. You can get an 8gb for $20 and a 16gb for $30-40. It definately is the best solution of storage for something that isn't PC-based and only needs it for large amounts of a few things opposed to small amounts of many things.

Wii has 512MB onboard memory and the limit of its SD card expansion slot is 2 gigs. I don't see how this can be for the Wii.

If I remember correctly, the Wii now supports SDHC. That means up to 32gb. More than the base HDD of a 360. You can also switch them in an easy, quick 5 sec. It could work. Even if it doesn't work that way, I could see them doing a streaming service similar to what Nintendo has did in the past.

True, it has the support with SDHC, now this can be possible.

Totally awesome, I was hunting for 2gb SD cards in my area, but could not find one, 2gb is getting old!

Heres some info on when SDHC support was released (March 2009): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii#Memory_storage

So can you guys confirm, if you have the latest firmware on your wii you can use SDHC cards?

Wii supports SDHC 32gb.

Since I already have a Netflix subscription and a Wii, I say "neat-o".

I think this will happen, but won't be the Nintendo Week thing. That will be the announcement of the Ambassador Program for North America, or the localization of Wii No Ma.

Well I would welcome NetFlix on the Wii if it actually comes. Though I still want to see a service where you can actually buy movies online and download the movies to keep. Sure I don't mind renting movies over the web but I want to see an actual digital distribution service in which these movies can be aquired permanently.

If Netflix does come to Wii then Nintendo will have yet another feature that Microsoft has so far owned exclusively. This will be a major plus to Nintendo. Making the Wii not only a game console but now a home entertainment platform far cheaper then its competitors and more efficient to boot!

well, there's this small company named Banana or was it Orange? some fruit anyway...

it makes this thing called iTunes, where you can do JUST THAT!

You're right! Now what was its name again? You're close, but I'm pretty sure it was either Pear or Grape.

I honestly have no idea. It makes sense from a business perspective for netflix. If it does happen It will be interesting to see how it plays out seeing for consumers as the wii is not HD capable. I know for me that would be a huge turn off.

Analysts' optimistic projections for HD adoption before the recession was 50% of households would have a HDTV late 2009/early 2010; and it is likely that the recession may have slowed that down so HD adoption may not reach 50% until late 2010. On top of that, owning a HDTV doesn't mean that people are necessarily HD-Snobs and many HDTV owners would be happy to get (roughly) DVD quality streaming video through the Wii.

While there would be some people who would reject the concept of the Wii service for not being HD, I suspect that the majority of those people would not own a Wii and would therefore not be in a position to matter towards the success of the Wii Netflix service.

The more interesting question is whether Wii owners actually want increased media functionality on the Wii ...

aweomse- hope Netflix does come to Wii, how much does a suscription to Netflix cost?
