Holiday Season, 2012 will be the release of the Wii "2". There is no reason to release a new console in 2011. This is especially if you think the 2010 lineup of games, will boost average sales a good bit.

Well I wouldn't really say that Nintendo's amazing line-up means that their won't be a new console in 2011. This will be the first time in a generation two generations that Nintendo is going to keep its past platform alive while releasing a new platform. Think about it a second, in the past with the NES/SNES/N64 Nintendo launched big titles even during the launch year of its next platform.
Snes, when the SNES got released Nintendo was a young company that didn't have many established IP's. The year prior to the Super Nintendo's launch Nintendo released one of its biggest games, Super Mario Bros 3.The year that the Super Nintendo launched Nintendo released highly anticipated games like NES Play Action Football, Nintendo World Championships, Nintendo World Cup, Startropics as well as less anticipated games like Pinbot, Snake Rattle & Roll. However Nintendo launched many titles alongside its third party counter parts long into Super Nintendo's lifespan. A perfect example would be the release of Kirby's Adventure in 1993 despite the Super Nintendo launching two years prior. Lets not forget the Mario games that came out in 1992/93/94 for the NES (Yoshi/Yoshi's cookiesMario's Missing/Mario's Time Machine/Wario'sWoods).
When the Nintendo64 got released, Nintendo continued supporting the SuperNintendo. A perfect example would be the release of Donkey Kong Country 2 and 3, Kirby Dream Avalanche. The third installment of one of Nintendo's biggest franchises (At the time) came out the same year as N64. It would be the same as launching a Zelda title at the same time as the next console. But keep in mind that during 1995 the year prior to the N64's release we saw Super Mario World 2 and Donkey Kong Country 2.
Then how about the years of the GameCube when the Nintendo 64 was right at the end of its lifespan. The year 2000 one year before the GameCube rocked store shelves, we saw the release of promenant titles like Kirby64:The Crystal Shards, Paper Mario, Legend Of Zelda:Majora's Mask , Pokemon Stadium 2. And the year that GameCube launched Nintendo maintained steady support for the Nintendo64 with big titles like Dr.Mario64
Infact if you think about it, the year before the GameCube Nintendo released a big Mario title and Zelda title. Infact that years lineup was even more impressive then 2010's it featured the sequal to the renouned Pokemon Stadium as well as Kirby's latest adventure. As well as other 2nd tier games like MarioParty3.
So infact if you look at Nintendo's past software line-ups you see a huge year right before the next platform hits store shelves. The GameCube was very rare in that the year before the Wii it never really recieved any big games. That was likely due to the lack of software sales, Nintendo didn't want to waste a game that could be diverted to the Wii's line-up.
Also don't forget that the next Wii is bound to have full backwards compatability so every game Nintendo releases for Wii will help when the next Nintendo platform hits shelves. Also keep in mind Nintendo wants to boost sales and its popularity right ahead of its next platform release! Not to mention if Nintendo goes with the route they took with NES (Supporting it untill 1994) Or Sony's approach selling the PS2 years after the next generation began then Nintendo needs to boost the Wii's sales!
So this indicates that fall 2011 we should see the next Nintendo platform. I mean a Mario game and a Zelda game both coming out in 2010 reminds me of 2000 when we saw Mario and Zelda launching right before GameCube!

No, those reasons don't make sense, With Wii overtracking the PS2, why launch another console if their competition isn't? Getting the jump on the competition doesn't help Nintendo, if You're outselling the competition, then there is no need to get the jump on them Graphics and hardware don't win console races, and only raise costs, making a Wii HD wouldn't benefit Nintendo's bottom line NATAL and wand don't show any sign of being able to challenge Wii, so why should Nintendo try and cut them off Sony and MS won't take over their marketshare until they can compete with Wii games, they can't so its a non issue |
I'd like to know how exactly you don't think that the Wand and Natal don't threaten Nintendo's market dominance? Really enlighten me which market analysis group has said they don't expect the Wand or Natal to challenge Nintendo's strangle hold on the market? Which official from which prominent company has said that the Wii will be uneffected?
I can say right now, with the PS3 successfully beating Nintendo down and taking them out of first place has a really good chance at stealing Nintendo's thunder when they release the Wand next year. Think about it a second a 200$ PS3 bundled with the wand and maybe a wand game (Like Wii with WiiSports) would be able to steal a huge amount of Nintendo's thunder. Now I can see where you get the idea Natal won't. But if Microsoft bundles Natal with the Elite for 299.99$ it too will have a profound effect on Nintendo's sales. Of course if Natal goes unbundled and is priced at 200$ then no I don't think it will challenge Wii.
I want to see some quotes of analysts saying that Sony's wand will not steal Nintendo's market share. Right now Sony is stealing Nintendo's market share even without the wand. But give the PS3 another price cut and bundle the wand and a game with every PS3 and Nintendo is screwed. Lets face it, the wand will be bundled with every PS3 come fall 2010 and by fall 2011 the PS3 will be only about 200$ (The Price of the Wii right now). How can an HD version of the Wii (Yes the Wand is a rippoff of the Wiimote) not steal its thunder?
Nintendo is already loosing its market dominance (With a price cut and some hot releases it still got beat by PS3) and when the wand and Natal hit shelves I expect Nintendo's share to start shrinking rapidly. Fall 2010 will see sales of the new Zelda propping the Wii up one last Christmas and then its time for Nintendo to release the next big thing in gaming!
You fail to realize, the Wii is beginning to loose on a monthly basis. The market share is beginning to shrink day by day. Yes the Wii is outselling PS2 but PS3 still came out despite PS2's high sales why wouldn't Wii2 come out despite the Wii's sales. You forget that 2011 is two Christmas's away alot is going to happen in those two Christmas's and Nintendo's Wii will not be overtracking the PS2 anymore!

Yep that's how it went down in the past and where did that actually get Nintendo? Sales declining every generation. In fact Reggie still believes the GameCube failed due to it's launch. Not enough games he said. Had Nintendo moved to the GameCube sooner and left the N64 alone then it would have done better (in Reggie's eyes)
You also have to remember that Nintendo WILL launch a new handheld in the next 2 years. That needs resources too and will cause a slow down in EAD Wii titles being developed. I'm hoping Nintendo begin to expand their software development a little more aggresively in the next couple of years. They not only need new teams, how about one or two new EAD teams? However they also need more people per team as games will take longer to develop on their new systems.
lol, you guys are still wrong. its coming out november 2011

This is a good point: i wonder why they don't create more teams, or don't purchase some talented teams to have more 2nd party workin' on their IP's, or don't do more exclusive partnerships with 3rd parties, like they did sometimes with Capcom, Hudson and Sega, or are doin' just now with Team Ninja...
They have so many billions, they can just do whatever they want, and they know how to recognise talent, the risks are not that important... maybe there's still a "Rare syndrome" active somewhere in the Nintendo's offices, or something... but they really should go for it...
I know that a few years ago, Nintendo had some kind of school, for talented young students to exercise in programmation and game design... if i'm correct, many of the Art-style games were fresh ideas created by these students, and then polished and refined by some Nintendo teams...
And in an interview, i remember that Miyamoto said he wasn't eternal, and that it was important to bring some new blood in the teams, and trust some of the 2nd generation "Nintendo big guys" to take charge of more important teams...
All this is quite essential for their future: they just can't trust 3rd parties to fill the gaps in their planning, as we all (sadly) know... so they have to be strong enough just by themselves, and take all the opportunities they can...
4000 employees for such a strong company is ridiculous, as it also includes hardware engineers and marketing guys... there's maybe 3000 guys really workin on the software side, when they could have two times more to release even more AAA games, without taking years and years...

Digipen is the school you're talking about and NST is the development studio that is on that very campus. NST have made games like 1080, Wave Race and Metroid Prime Hunters. Their last game was Mario vs. Donkey Kong for DSiWare and they were the team making Project H.A.M.M.E.R. before it's untimely demise. Rumours say they are working on a title called Wii Crush but who knows.
