If you look at Nintendo's software development, i think you can see that Wii is moving into the later stages of it's life. If you look at the development schedules that most of their teams are on, or at least are estimated to be on, it looks like they, internally, have enough software to bring them through 2011 easily, but not much further than that. If it's not 2011, it'll be early 2012. Late 2012 would be a bit of a stretch, and perpetuate a late-term 1st-party drought for the platform

A lot of speculation here, as we don't even know all the games comin' in 2010...

Nintendo is so secretive that there could be 10 games actually in production for Wii, just as well as 30... do you know what's happening with Intelligent Systems, Retro Studios, Hal Laboratory, Camelot, EAD Tokyo, Project Sora, and all the others?

If so, you're a really lucky man for such insider's informations, as most of us would really like to know...

HAL Labs is unknown, Camelot is probably working on Golden Sun 3 (DS) and they are no longer a Nintendo-owned studio anyway, EAD Tokyo is working on.... Galaxy 2. Project Sora will be one of those 2011 games that keeps the platform thriving late in its life (alongside Dragon Quesxt X, but that's besides the point). Retro Studios project will probably be out next year (they'll have had 3 whole years to work on it in that case. Prime Trilogy was something they did as a side project)

I haven't updated this in a while but it's basically a mix of what we know and my projections. In my projections for 2011, I'm assuming that we're going to see the launch of a new generation of Nintendo handheld. I think Nintendo will push the Wii with new heavy hitting software until 2012, then we'll see a large drought in the lead up to their next system as they produce games for that and also for their new handheld.

edit: I should point out that 2011 is so small because it's so far away, not because I think there'll be so few titles released.

What about the other 4 EAD groups? As well as Intelligent systems and SPD? edit: NVM, puffy supplied

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

SPD we can't really speak of, aside from the one we know about. They're the Nintendo Ninja, infiltrating 3rd party dev teams and forcing them to do their bidding, and we can't really know what will come of it.

But as for the other EAD groups, yeah, Puffy's got it. As it is, group 1, 2, and 4 could put out another Wii title before the end of the generation, i think. Tokyo and 3 (Zelda) aren't in a position to do so. But i think we could narrow down two of the games that those 3 groups could possibly be working on: Vitality and Pikmin 3. That leaves only one opening.

Yes, i know, we have some (very) limited informations: but to say they will have nothing for 2012 and after... they could have 10-20 games already in the pipelines for 2011-2012 on Wii, if their next console won't be released before 2013...

There's just NO WAY we could know, even for the next 12 or 15 months... so two or three years from now: that's just a shot in the dark...

Why does everyone here seem to think 2012?

If Nintendo goes by their five year life cycle and Wii continues to shrink in market share, wouldn't you expect Nintendo's next console in 2011? I personally expect Nintendo to give the Wii one last big push in 2010 with Pikmin,Mario,Link and Donkey Kong, Fox hopefully all making appearances. But after such a powerful line up could Nintendo even keep the Wii going another two years?

So if Sony releases the Wand and Microsoft Natal instead of new platforms is it benificial for Nintendo to push into a new generation?

2012 would be a 6 year life span. Considering that's the lifespan PS2 had, and Wii sales are tracking similar to it (if not better), I would think 2012 at the earliest would make the most sense. I personally wouldn't be surprised at a 2013 or even 2014 release for nintendo's next console. They have clearly stated simply adding horsepower to their consoles isn't really their focus anymore.

Nintendo will announce that the new console is coming out in 2012.
However, it is really trying to figure out a way to survive the destruction foretold for that year in the Mayan prophesies.
So we will NOT see a new Nintendo console.

OK -- 2012. I think maybe Newton (2061) was closer to the real doomsday date.

Keep in mind Sony never intended to launch their platform after 6 years. Initially PS3 was supposed to launch in fall 2005 and then they delayed it to spring 2006 then finally we saw release in Christmas 2006. I remember when Microsoft showed off the 360 at E3 that Sony announced they hoped for PS3 to launch alongside it. But of course they ended up delaying the console twice second time because the controller had to be completely redesigned etc...etc...

So I think Nintendo will definatly show its next platform at E3 2011 like Sony did when they showed off PS3. Now yes it might not see release till 2012 (Possible) but I don't think we have long to wait before Nintendo brings out the next console. If rumours are true and Sony/Microsoft intend to stick it out a few years if not till 2016 with their Natal/Wand, then Nintendo could single handedly crush the competition.

Lets look at the pluses here. By launching first (If Sony/MS really don't show a new platform next E3)

-Nintendo goes unchallenged and early adopters who might be Sony or Microsoft fans will likely feel the need to get the newest and highest performance console

-Nintendo has made it clear that they don't care to go the route of graphical superiority. This being true the WiiHD will probubly be 2x-3x the PS3. Launching first will give Nintendo a graphical edge even though NextBox/PS4 will be graphically superior upon their launch.

-Casual gamers who may be tempted to buy Natal or Sony's wand will instead see the WiiHD as the third option. If the WiiHD is fully backwards compatable then casuals will quickly adopt the new platform.

So were talking a massive lead. Nintendo could waste Natal and the Wand over night and only a year into their lifespans. Nintendo would then also force Microsoft and Sony to launch new platforms in 2012. Now sure some like myself think PS3 could survive next generation without a PS4 but Microsoft's Natal will be killed and Sony's sales that may be boosted by casual sales will be dead in the water after only a year on the market.

Nintendo could turn the Wand/Natal into the new powerglove. By killing both platforms only a year into their life spans. Lets face it without another platform Natal/Wand will begin to take Nintendo's marketshare and could kill the Wii in a matter of years! But if Nintendo launches a new platform in 2011 they will keep Microsoft and Sony from taking over their marketshare!

No, those reasons don't make sense, With Wii overtracking the PS2, why launch another console if their competition isn't? Getting the jump on the competition doesn't help Nintendo, if You're outselling the competition, then there is no need to get the jump on them Graphics and hardware don't win console races, and only raise costs, making a Wii HD wouldn't benefit Nintendo's bottom line NATAL and wand don't show any sign of being able to challenge Wii, so why should Nintendo try and cut them off Sony and MS won't take over their marketshare until they can compete with Wii games, they can't so its a non issue
