Forums - Nintendo - Reason Epic Mickey is on the wii, because of the audience

Prof00, click on the link and read the full comment. He's going for the "not graphics whores" angle.

Although I find that graphics whoring is mainly an online thing, not a console thing.

As in did Gears sell because of the graphics or because it's a great shooter (even if I couldn't get into it)?

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Wii have Epic Mickey.

Kingdom Hearts is next.

This may even be part of the reason we haven't heard much about KH3 yet: disputes over where it should appear. Disney wants Wii, Square wants PS3, and neither can move without the other.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

so what though?
The OP suggested there was no demographic on ps3 that would like mickey.

what does mickey have to do with wii demographic?

at least the people who own ps3 or 360 are old enough to remember mickey

old enough to know, not to buy. To many, they would look down as something they would have bought decade ago in their childhood. The result would have been the same.Low sales. Is not the game interest to say hey, you remember me?is BUY ME factor.Disney wants money, not to sit on the shelve saying hah you dont have to buy me, just remember me!

I know you might be surprised, but Disney and Mickey are still recognized by kids, thanks to constant reruns and new series in the Disney Channel, and well, Disneyland. Also, are damm well recognized by parents.Parents with the buying power that will no doubt see Mickey as a good product for their child.Just like so many products with the Mickey label working so properly in the kids demographic.

Though is to say that BR is popular.its not yet even reaching 30 percent of the market. is relative honestly. It failed to quickly become the standart media. It might even fail to become before a better cheaper format arrives.

i don't understand why the graphics whore comment. Just because it's on ps360 doesn't mean it needs to be graphically overwhelming.

well it now have the demographic.

so who is betting 5 million sales?

What does that even mean? Who wouldn't want a mickey mouse game?

Disney is an old company that continues to expand their audience by catering to younger ages. They don't so much focus on aging their stuff with the consumer. Much that is the assumption of another post. Kids fall out of disney at about 14 and don't get back into disney until parent hood. There are exceptions of course. The market of 14-Parent is pretty much PS360 and Wii. that's why it has more sold. It's all about getting this game known. If Disney spends some serious effort it will sell really well.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

It was about going where the audience is and going somewhere where they’re going to accept a visual style that is more cartoony than people are used to seeing and where we don’t feel obliged to throw in every shader on the planet. ‘Look at the normal maps and shaders.’ We don’t have to do that kind of stuff. It’s the right platform for this project, for sure.”

Why not used shaders and normal mapping?  The Wii is capable of it.  This just sounds like low effort, yet again on the Wii.

I just want to know why ps360 users wouldn't accept cartoony style. This is complete nonsense. Additionally it wouldn't take much effort, just a simple port would be sufficient.

actually capcom already explained*With TVC* that is not so simple to port a specifically designed wii game to other consoles. The expense and costs were so big that capcom explained that it would cost the same as making a brand new game. Thats why you dont see that happening too often, if never. If they cant make up the expenses with sales, is pointless to bother. Is not just about Ps3 has more power so its wii compatible. Its all about huge architecture diferences. And tvc is an appealing title for those demographics without question.Whereas Mickey is not so. Otherwise we could and would have deblob for ps3, boom blox and so forth. This game ,unlike TVC ,is also heavily influenced by the wiimote. It all adds up and makes this an unpleasant task to consider.
