Forums - Nintendo - Crystal Bearers developer: Selling on Wii will not be easy.

http://www.destructoid.com/destructoid-interview-the-crystal-bearers-152620.phtml

Destructoid: Third parties have had mixed luck in bringing their "hardcore" franchises to the Wii. What do you think it takes to make a traditional action/adventure game on the Wii a success?

Square Enix: Of course we would love to succeed, but seeing the current Wii market, it will be no easy feat.

Seems that EA/Visceral aren't the only ones complaining about the Wii 3rd party market. Will people hate Square Enix now?

Maybe no one cares who makes the game? Oh wait that' can't be possible.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

I agree, Crystal Bearers will be a tough sell, but not just because it's on Wii. It would have a tough time selling on the Ps2.

Crystal Chronicles on Gamecube sold 1.38 million according to VG Chartz. I would think it would have done better on the PS2 (with the much larger user base) and should do better on the Wii if the problems with Wii 3rd party sales don't come in to play

Third parties that put out quality titles that people want have not had a problem. Crystal Bearers may not be as wanted as the main FF series, it is far more wanted than an on rails shooter. Assuming it's actually a quality title, it will easily break 1 million.

Either way, this title IS going to be a gamble for Square-Enix; I think Kawazu is trying to keep his expectations for this game as realistically as possible. It probably won't be a million seller in Japan, but I can see it clocking in at about 250K or more.

yep, especially when you completely change the Crystal Chronicles "concept"

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

Well maybe it would (because of the higher user base) but in my opinion it sold on the GC for 2 factors: The first one being because it's an FF and the second one is that in my opinion it sold cause it was the return of FF series to a nintendo console. But well maybe it would also sell on the ps2.

i would also mark gba conectivity as a factor since people saw it as an innovation.

Edit: Now, about FFCC:CB not selling i consider it very unlikely because first it is a FF second it is a CC which means nintendo's consoles owners already know the franchise and third that it looks pretty cool :) the commercials are actually in my opinion great and probably will attract a lot of japanese gamers.

Yeah, I doubt it will be a million in Japan alone... Few titles do that well.... World wide it should be able to do it, unless they start to worry and cut development early.

The devs are right...but that's not the important news....

CKMLB IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
