Forums - PC - If Windows 7 turns out to be great, how will Apple advertise their macs?

Macs are reasonably powered and the operating system is easier to use than most others, very idiot proof indeed. I use them for specific tasks if needed, and they in no way, are bad computer systems.

But in comparison to Windows 7, and as an avid user of my computer, I don't care for simple or "clean". I want a system that does the most, and does it well. Windows 7 is doing that, and more. It takes the simplicity of OSX, and adds in freedom, software selection, amazing integration with other devices.

I honestly think a similar system sporting Windows 7, is far more functional/flexible/open than its Apple counterpart. On both a hardware and software point of view

Apple Tax is a good one :)

I have Windows 7 right now...and it's great. It's like Vista had a baby and it was an iPod, with all of Vista's powers, lol.

It's like Nintendo made an OS.

Epic win, I give it 10/10. Wow.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

2k for an inferior machine...?

Oh wow. Apple tax is right.

You're not paying for speed, you're paying for style. iPods are the same way. I use a Mac Pro for photo editing in my photography class, and their "Apple CInema" displays are freaking sexy! But...they're like $800.

The way I see it is that Apple is a very greedy version on Nintendo. They both produce quality hardware on a consistent basis. (maybe not the most powerful, but gameboys, gamecubes, etc are durable as hell) They both have a very loyal fanbase aswell. However Nintendo charges a fair price, and Apple just charge whatever they want.

I get tired of the whole "Apple is more expensive than PC's".  People are usually comparing them to crappy E-machines out of wall-mart.

I picked a Sony computer off of Amazon.  I consider Apple computers to have better components than Sony, but Sony is one the highest quality PC manufacturers (therefore more expensive than e-machines and Dells).

As you can see, for 2000$ they are very comparible.  The Sony has 2GB more RAM, BlueRay and a touchscreen.  The Mac has a bigger screen and a much better video card.

Like I said before, these are just two computers I found to compare.  I didn't find any Mac that was on sale or some website that sells them for really cheap.

Simply put, Mac does not produce cheap computers.  That is why people think they are more expensive than PC.  However, find a PC that matches a Mac in quality of parts and power, and the Mac is usually slightly cheaper.

LOL, so to battle the "Apple Tax" you pick out a Sony computer which is also known for having its own "Sony Tax." Seriously, stop being a fanboy, this is not subjective, we're talking about pricing here aka numbers. Like others have said, you can find a PC with better specs for cheaper than a Mac, but you can't add in that "cool" factor that is in every Apple product /sarcasm.

OT, It's funny I just finished watching a Mac commercial where they are talking about "everybody upgrading" but instead of it being to Windows 7, its to "the more stable OS" or something like that. It was dispicable, really.

Edit: These aren't the ones I saw but, you can see basically where there ad direction is going.

1) I wasn't going to use newegg.com because they somehow sell things for so cheap. I was using what I consider a 'normal' retail website like bestbuy.com and amazon for the comparison. Newegg.com is just two awesome.
2) Gateways suck. They break down all the time. You would be amazed the price difference between mediocre and high quality parts.
3) Cheap monitor = 400$. Samsung high quality monitor = 1000$

@voty2000
Like I said I worked at a computer shop for 2 years after getting my computer science degree and before I became an officer in the USAF. Sony is the only brand I could use that has the quality to compare to Macs. It goes something like this: E-machine
My point is that I just chose a brand that wasn't crap on a normal retail website and compared it to a Mac. I didn't rig the comparison any by picking a specific website or looking around for a specific computer to make my point. I literally took the first Sony computer I found and then found a Mac on Apple's website that was close to it.

What kind of monitor costs $1,000? That more than most TV's. Here is a very high quality monitor for $230.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824160041

Amazing picture quality, good size, and build in webcam/microphone.

tomshardware.com supports my argument. Here is one of their articles about the issue.

A little old, but people were having the same argument back then also. It just happens to be an article I remember.

I have a high quality 24'' Samsung monitor. It's available for $300 right now on Amazon.com

Apple Get-a-Mac ads, new ones in respond to Win 7 are in!!
http://www.apple.com/getamac/ads/

I use a PC, but these ads are very funny and enjoyable, I can't imagine why people find these offensive. Stop being stupid zombie fanboys, NO PLATFORM IS PERFECT OKAY?!

[emo]

Do the shit thats best for you and choose what you can afford / appropriate, why resent something just because you can't fucking afford it. BMW / Mercedes cars do in fact make ads that make fun of each other, so do other competing brands, never fucking watch TV?? Get with the program and enjoy them for what they are, THEY ARE COMPETING FOR YOUR LOVE.

Since this is a gaming related website, yeah PC gaming is and will be better on the PC, because OpenGL is not moving ahead much if at all and the Mac mouse has 1 goddamn button but can you use 3rd party mice, FUCK YES. But are PCs better than Macs, WHO GIVES A FUCK, use what you like, are people buying with your fucking money?
