It remains to be seen yet if GOW can be a blockbuster or not. Surely there is a lot of anticipation for the game, but niether of the previous two GOW games cracked the 4 million mark. They have good numbers(especially for late generation entries) but I'm talking about creating a monster like Halo, Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy(in japan), Mario Kart, Super Smach Brothers, Monster Hunter(in japan), Fifa(in others), Madden(in america). Games that are must own for the video game subcultures. I think God Of War has a chance, but if there was multiplayer it would have a better chance because friends have a big influence on each other in the video game market. |
I'm not sure if this is a valid argument and please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the first two GOW's release when the PS2 was at its peak for piracy? I'm sure that took away atleast a million units from the sales.
