Yeah i think they are trying to make Uncharted one of their main franchises like GT and GOW

It remains to be seen yet if GOW can be a blockbuster or not. Surely there is a lot of anticipation for the game, but niether of the previous two GOW games cracked the 4 million mark. They have good numbers(especially for late generation entries) but I'm talking about creating a monster like Halo, Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy(in japan), Mario Kart, Super Smach Brothers, Monster Hunter(in japan), Fifa(in others), Madden(in america). Games that are must own for the video game subcultures. I think God Of War has a chance, but if there was multiplayer it would have a better chance because friends have a big influence on each other in the video game market.

I'm not sure if this is a valid argument and please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the first two GOW's release when the PS2 was at its peak for piracy? I'm sure that took away atleast a million units from the sales.

I don't think piracy had much effect on it. I don't think piracy has much effect on any console game really. Especially not more than 25% of the sales, that is ridiculous. Especially when the games could have been had for $20 for a long period of time.

I do think it has potential though and can be a big hit. But I don't know if it will be a game that can command 4 or 5 mill in sales. And as of right now the most it sold was 3.21 million and the last installment sold much less at 2.52 million.

Sony have more blockbuster games than anyone on the planet. There's only been a couple of 4 million+ sellers on the ps3 because of it's high price. People really should stop expecting 4, 5 million sales for top games because it rarely happens.

While I agree this is Sony's strategy this Christmas, I would argue whether it's just simply because there is nothing else for them to back at the moment? They can only advertise what's ready, and maybe the Sony studio's were worked so hard the last few years Naughty Dog are the only ones with a game for the Xmas line up this year?

In all honesty though I think this strategy is far more effective, Halo speaks volumes for this. In the PS2 era it was viable to release 4 or 5 games over the holiday season, thats how the market worked, nowadays it just wants those 2 or 3 big blockbusters and the rest is forgotten. Maybe like you say, Sony see what the market now wants and is changing it's strategy?

I know they have Ratchet and Clank too... Sony don't seem to care so much about this one anymore. It got cut from E3, I've not seen an advert for it... I'm skeptical if we'll see another after this one. Uncharted is clearly more in-tune with the market Sony needs to be clamouring for at the moment.
