Forums - Gaming - Anybody else find online multiplayer more frustrating than fun?

I'm an old guy, so I'm lucky if I play 2 hours or so, at night when everyone else is asleep...but I can compete in Gear on-line if my connection is decent.

Find a group of people you enjoy talking to on-line and play what they play; the learning curve is easier overcome when your joking with friends.

Still frustrating when some dude who has 4 times as many matches as you uses a modded controller and hammerbursts you down but...I digress, don't I...

You sound exactly like me.  99% of my gaming happens late at night after the family went to bed.

BTW, here's a message for all of the little kids who like to go online and talk smack...

If your mom drove you to the store to get your copy of the game, you're not that tough.

Keep this in mind when reading what I type...

I've been gaming longer than many of you have been alive.

I've been playing Gears of War 2 less and less because it's becoming more frustrating. Maybe I'm just not as good as I used to be.

Epic has noted an increase in the number of cheaters since their last title update (#4); they say they are going to fix it with TU #5...so I'd bet it's not you getting worse, just running into the cheating players.   All right, I'll stop talking gears now!

I have noticed a lot more cheaters playing, plus my friends don't get on as much so I'm always put on a team with strangers that don't like to talk and do teamwork.

I played Call of Duty 4 online pretty regularly for about a month or two and actually got pretty good. It was still frustrating though seeing people who just obviously had more practice time than I did. I played COD: World at War for a couple of weeks and lost interest in that. I've had Killzone 2 since its release and haven't touched multiplayer. I just today briefly tried Uncharted 2 online and just didn't find it all that interesting. I can play the single player Uncharted over and over and over again and not get tired of it. I've beat the first at least 5 times (and have the Platinum) and I imagine that Uncharted 2 will get the same amount of attention from me.

I hate it when one game gets docked points in a review for not having multiplayer and another game has it, but it isn't anything special so that one gets docked points as well. I feel the same way about mulitplayer as I do about motion controls... Not every game needs to have it.

Online multiplayer is good for playing with friends or with people you meet online that are laidback. I hate playing with people who take games too seriously. Especially now with multiplayer achievements/trophies, they're so intent on winning that they'll even disconnect right before they lose so that it won't go against their record (or so you won't get your win). It's not about fun to them anymore. It's ridiculous.

Nothing beats local multiplayer though. It's the best. Just less convenient since it seems like not many people want to go over to play anymore.

Whilst this is true for some publications, Bioshock and Mass Effect say hi! If a game has enough quality, I don't think even reviewers can dock points.

You guys that are not good or find it hard to play the online multi matches, you should try the online co-op modes out. There are a couple great modes in Uncharted2, or even the co-op in resistance2. This can be a great way to ease into the other modes and its more noob friendly.

What if they strong armed her into driving them to the store? That makes them plenty tough in my book!

I forgot about Resistance 2.  Tried that for about a week.  How many damn bullets do I have to pump into a guy before he dies?  Geesh!

That's actually what i find myself doing more and more with the new games that are coming out. Rather than re-learning maps and stuff, I just go through the co-op campaign.

Oh when you are the king in game's multiplayer, you love it.
Of course you feel frustraded sometimes when you get slaughtered...But then in next game you slaughter them all!
