Forums - Website Topics - VGChartz's Popularity

While I'm really happy that VGChartz has become a much more popular site since its inception, I was curious as to just how much.  Simply by typing in "video game sales", this site is the very first site that comes up (followed by Wikipedia).  This comes as no surprise seeing as sites as big as IGN and Kotaku quote this sites numbers on a regular basis at this point.  But, upon generalizing my search to simply "video games", this site is very first........on the twelfth page.  This is not cool, we have to rise above these random little sites and get up to the first few pages with the likes of IGN, G4TV and the first and third party sites.  Obviously not as many people care about sales as the games themselves, so this may be unlikely if not impossible.  However, there really should be enough fanboys alone who want to argue over numbers to propel us to page 4 or 5 easily! (lol j/k)

So basically, I was just wondering if the site runners have any new plans for the site, aside from the weekly articles and lists and such (also the console symbols were a nice add!).

It would be cool if we could put advertisements on sites like IGN for VGChartz.  Ovbiously expensive but that would really make the hits surge.

Oh noez.  Unfortunate. But cats are pretty cool. rofl

I would love to see this site so much higher.

i know,,,, this site is known by practically no one and everyone i talk to about sales are like *how do you know that* and blah blah....i just wish everyone knew about it....it would be more fun than it already is

It would be fun if people if people brought up this site as readily as they bring up IGN and Destructoid scores. Ah well.

Interesting observation: For "video game sales", we are the first result. For "game sales", we are the first result. For "video sales", we are the first result...on the 2nd page. So, the 11th result.

Let's fix this.

Hey, there's a Video Game Sales Wiki.

http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Video_Game_Sales_Wiki

We should inform them of the existence of VGC, and say they can use our numbers if they put a huge "POWERED BY VGCHARTZ" picture at the top.

Well, it does not really surprise me that "video sales" beats us out. I mean, the movie industry is still considered top dog. Add to that youtube (which will probably score the word "video" a lot more times then us anyway) it's a lost cause.

Us being on top when searching for video game sales, game sales, etc is a big enough feat. VGChartz has a niche where it provides with it's core-concept - sales figures - and I don't think we will be able to compete with the big boys when it comes to just serching for games. The amount of traffic and sponsoring those sites attract is just to humongous to tackle anytime soon. Perhaps in the long term people...

Be glad we edged out neogaf ;)

How does Vgchartz gets money from anyway... just cuious? Please reply :)

OT: This could be a good thing or a bad thing since we could be attracting a bunch of trolls but luckily more good members but this imo and im such a little newbie in this site so...

Vgchartz's comes 6,589th in traffic rank among all sites in the world. In the U.S., it comes 3,845th.
