Top 5 Games to play that most of you have never heard of:
1. Chronos Twin-Two screens of action that you play simultaneously
2. Hoshigami: Running Blue Earth Remix-Great port of a PS1 SRPG that has aged well. The RAP gauge that periodically gets filled based on the actions during your turn is a great addition and provides immesne strategy.
3. Retro Game Challenge-If the developer of this game was around in the NES era, we would have had many, many more classics. Pure 8-bit goodness and a great tongue-in-cheek story and setting parodying 8-bit gaming life.
5. Spectral Force Genesis-A very odd world conquering strategy title where you can only take one predetermined action per month.
5. Thereaia-A really morbid point and click adventure title that is heavy on story, despair and doom and will frustrate you (for better or worse) with it's trial and error exploration gameplay. It's been a while since an amnesiac main character hasn't felt stale.
Top 5 SHMUPs:
1. Ketsui Death Label-Japan only title that is the bullet hell game from, well...hell.
2. Space Invaders Extreme 2-A damn good sequel that is more disorienting than ever.
3. Contra 4-Fantastic old school gameplay.
4. Bangai-O Spirits-Great free flying 2D SHMUP title
5. Metal Slug 7-Almost as good as Contra, but what it may lack a bit in gameplay it makes up in artistic design and pure style.
Top 5 Ports you know exist but weren't aware that they're pretty damn good:
1. MLB Power Pros 2008-Fantastic RBI baseball style gameplay in a nice neat package. Best on the go sports game.
2. Spiderman: Web of Shadows-Good because it's 2D and is in the Metroidvania style
3. Ghostbusters: The Videogame-Great action RPG gameplay similar to Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Cool driving sections inbetween mission that remind you of the old NES game
4. Tomb Raider: Underworld-3D graphics on a 2D plane with gameplay reminiscent of the original Prince of Persia.
5. X-Men Origins: Wolverine-Really fun 2D sidescrolling action title that will remind you of an old 16-bit title. Lots of tough action and great gameplay.
I'll make more lists later. Now it's your turn. Ask me about my lists. Request specific lists from me. Make your own lists. The DS doesn't get nearly enough attention here. Might as well shine some light in it's direction.
