Forums - Sony - Has Sony really failed to capitalize on PS3 Slim launch?

i feel that if Sony had set more first party exclusives to release along with PS3 Slim than the PS3 hardware numbers could have been even more impressive..

We saw that when ToV launched couple of weeks after Slim launch the numbers stayed quite high ~50k.. in Japan.

Similarly with the launch of Uncharted 2 which was not expected to give any boast, is expected to give a small but reasonable boast..

and now only exclusive remaining to launch on PS3 in the holidays is Ratchet & Clank..

so exclusive helps to differentiate product n while the iron was hot with the price drop n launch of PS3, the effect of exclusive could have given PS3 quite a big boast..

Even last yr PS3 had more exlusives like Resistance 2, Little Big Planet, Socom, MotorStorm pacific rift n few minor ones also like valkyria chronicles n singstar..

but this yr if u look there r only 2, U2 n R&C.. :( and then if u look on Q1 there r like 4 titles big exclusive titles coming out from MAG, GT5, Heavy Rain (possibly) , GOW.. they could have pushed one of these title for the holidays, and this would have given them a gr8 push n spotlight for the holidays sales.

hardware sales in holidays r equal to the total hardware sales in the remaining yr.. so a little push in holidays could have gone a long long way in some very decent sales for Sony PS3..

I think Sony has not played the cards as well as they could have..

ps. i m not discussing Japan... more emphasis is on europe n NA..

What about Demon's Souls?

Heavy hitters like Modern Warfare2 and FIFA can hurt an exclusive.

I think they did it right.

It launched perfectly IMO.

Will keep high momentum through the rest of the year. And guarentee's big sales for Q1/Q2 with all the big exclusives releasing.

And while i know you aren't includng Japan... I just need to say Final Fantasy 13 will move a fuck load of consoles.

Not at all, with all of the games that have come out in the last month and that are to be released in the coming months, they are fine. Plus, even though I was upset about it, spreading their big name exclusives like GT5 and GoWIII out a little may lengthen the boost for longer than it would have.

They could have but they didn;t

THey have done enough

GT5 launching would've been the icing on the cake

IMO bad move for it not to launch this holiday

but hey FF13 in December!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

@Darth...

It really won't make much sense to have two big boys like GT5 and FF13 launch within a month or two of each other.

You need to spread your butter a bit thinner than that if you want to cover the whole slice of bread.

You can always add more butter but it spoils the bread and it becomes soggy.

Meaning there are a set amount of big exclusives released every year and you must keep the public interested throughout the year by not giving to much to quickly.

Yes I know someone will say FF13 is not exclusive but it is exclusive where it matters most.

Its out selling the 360 aint it? I think they did fine.

Whaty about eyepet? that is an exclusive though i doubt it will do anything

This pretty much sums it up for me.
