there're a lot more cheapasses out there than they assume.

but i think cheapasses are born from the fact that games are just far too expensive. i believe that they should have a flat 50% cut! that would put a dent against piracy too.

We are very likely facing a glut of games out there, and GOOD games to.  End result is people can afford to be cheap in regards to the hobby, not caring if developers go under, because they have enough to play.  A number of the cheap people who did this, likely wouldn't of acquired the game normally, and maybe got it to add to their collection.

I think a lot of you are being too negative.
Sure, it's a lose now but they also made more people play the game and make their game known as well as their brand.
Brand power sells.

Think of the anticipation this will drum up for their next game. A lot of people know their name now and their games that otherwise wouldn't know them. Also this is very good publicity for the company and adds to the brand name equity and company goodwill with the consumer.

how is it a lost in any way? they got their game/name out there (like you said) whilst making a pretty decent profit.

This also proves that pay-what-you-want can be viable to indie devs if executed properly.

haha, probably.

Hang about. If they are sufficiently satisfied with the result that they have extended the period of the promotion then why would it be necessary to put on a price minimum.

If there is a payment method that puts 2D Boy out of pocket then they just need to say that paying by x method requires you to add y amount of money to your purchase if you intend to pay less than z amount. If $2 is the break even point then if some idiot wants to pay 50c then add $2 because of the pyment method they choose spending $2.50 then that's their lookout.

Lol, personally I didn't download a copy for this exact reason. The 25 cents I figure it's worth wouldn't even cover their paypal fees.

They might as well set the minimum floor at 30 cents (where they start making a profit). Otherwise there is no point. If you're going to pay less than 30 cents, you might as well just torrent it for free since you're not helping 2D Boy in any way by donating less than 30.

I know I would have bought it for a dollar.

Pixel Art can be fun.
