Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto on Zelda Wii: 'It's very fun to move your body around'

It sounds like they've barely even started on the game yet.

It's very fun to move your body around. <- That is just a general statement you could say about anything.

late 2011 I say

So.... based on those particular words, a statement about what is fun, you think they've barely even started.

How do you make that logical leap, exactly?

I make it because at E3 all they showed was hand drawn artwork concept. There have been no videos, no updates, no solid story concept. All we know is that it will have motion controls.

Let me put this into the implied context that I am hearing.

"Well, we haven't actually been able to play the game yet, but I know it will be great because 'It's very fun to move your body around".

Of course, that is just what I heard, and is groundless in anything except my ability to judge how people act. To me it feels like he evaded the question.

I'm still going to stick to late 2011.

EDIT: he even said 'while I can't comment on zelda wii'...-

......right

Now, remind me again, because I tend to be forgetful

How many months was it between the release of the first in-game footage of New Super Mario Bros Wii and the release of the actual game?

I'm pretty sure we saw the gameplay at last E3.

Lemme know when we see footage of zelda wii, and then we can talk.

I know that Nintendo doesn't announce things in advance, exactly how NSMBW was done. But that's not always the case. Look at the new Metroid.
At E3, it felt like Miyamoto and Nintendo were already concerned about slowing sales and felt they had to maintain core interest by showing a new Zelda, even when all they had was a painting. It wasn't even at Nintendo's presscon, it was shown secretly (I think).

To me, the implied context here was, "I know you core fans are a little frustrated, just remember that we have Zelda."

I'm pleased Spirit Tracks is pushing the DS further. That's my most anticipated DS game.

I am glad it is along the lines of a normal Zelda game.  I was thinking that it was a Kart racing game, when I saw the title originally.

They could have had a demo ready, and instead gave us artwork?
Why didn't they just show a tiny preview? Why not just a picture zooming out with some kind of effects and a sound clip to feature the title? Because they didn't even have that.

They could afford to have a professional painter come in and probably spent a couple thousand for him, but they couldn't have a guy spend a couple hours making a pretty title move around.

I think it was a bluff. It is at the very least a 2011 title. early or late.

yeah i remember that soriku, and also i believe he said the zelda team is working restless in the project, so the game must be at least halfway completed.

Miyamoto said they could have had a demo ready but they decided to continue working and not waste time making one so instead they gave us some artwork.

Late 2011 is a HUGE shot in the dark.

This. The way he made it sound, they were at a point in development where building a trailer or demo would have detracted from the overall pace, so they were probably in a more foundational point, because Miyamoto recently said (in that whole "seduce developers" thing i posted), that they don't make the game presentable until they have the fundamentals down.

My guess is that they probably have gameplay floating around, and the reason they were able to show that bit of concept art is because the girl is essential to the gameplay (however that be), so they have her made up before they really build the meat of the story

Where they could be now, i cannot guess. But i believe they had something then, but they would have had to go out of their way to make it presentable (take time out to finalize a character model for Link, take time out to build a few environments and a few cutscenes), which is why we didn't see anything, because them just showing what they had would have looked very much like a tech demo, which would have pissed people off.

Early 2011 at the latest, i say. I think they will shoot for a holiday 2010 thing. Unless more tea tables get upended.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

When I saw the title I was immediately reminded of WiiFit hoola-hoop...

Epic.

It just doesn't make any sense at all.

You must have testing at all levels of development. They don't need to take time off developing the game to make a demo. You simply have a tester play the game, sample different parts of it, add some music and create a working logo, or even just use an existing sound track and logo.
