Forums - Gaming - Why in hell Castlevanias never became million seller series???

I know, it's weird. I played Castlevania legacy of darkness on N64 and loved it so much. These days all I hear is hate for that game.

Also other castlevania games that sold over 1 million - Super castlevania(snes), Castlevania 3(nes), Simonn quest(nes), Castlevania (nes)...hell even Bloodlines on genesis most likely sold around a million mark. There jsut isn't any data on this stuff.

when is this site going to add old data like this. i remember when i first started visiting the site there was (incomplete) american charts dating back to around 1994.

any mods know if and when this will happen? i dont want to sound like a moany old git, this site is amazing and i can appreciate its a constant ongoing job updating old and new data alike.

I really dislike those muscular brown haired Castlevania characters...My fauvorite Castlevania has been Dawn of Sorrow and Soma is as cool as Dante..

Take my love, take my land..

My favorite Castlevania was Super castlevania, which had challenge and levels that you had to get through.

Now there is saving and weird secrets and you get stuck and dont know where to go. I hate the Metroid concept.

Give me back old school castlevania.

I dont think this data will ever be added. It just isn't available. Japan was tracking their sales...but American and Europe don't have sales data for the 8 and 16 bit days. Believe it or not Genesis sold much better in Europe and south american than Snes...and it sold equal as Snes in North America until 1996.

This is why Sega doesn't appear to have many million sellers...they had plenty in reality but no one recorded their sales.

I am absolutely positive that CAstelvania SOTN sold well over a million...probably 2-3 million on PS1 alone...and it came out on saturn, psp, 360, ps3 after... The word of mouth on that game was nuts as it is one of the best games ever made.

As far as rest of them after SOTN, they didn't sell over a million because they weren't that good. There hasn't been a good console castlevania for over 10 years.

Actually, the DS games are magnificant. I think OOE probably slightly surpassed SotN in overall game quality. Only problem is SotN did it first, and so perfectly, that slight improvements on the formula or the game won't ever surpass that game in my eyes.

I don't think I'm in the niche when I think that a game like SotN deserves millions of sales, new or old, and I think people who don't think it does or people who would rather play a shitty game just because it's in 3d, have terrible tastes, yes.

Im not surprised DS games are amazing quality. The GBA games like circle of new moon and harmony of dissenence were 9/10 type of games in my eyes. Adding touch screen mechanics and more powerful hardware would only make the games better. Unfortunately I never had a DS. One day.... SOTN did it first tho...like you said...

BTW...Did you ever get full 200% map coverage in SOTN? I had jury duty last week so I played through SOTN on the PSP...probably for the 10th time, and I cant get the final 2%...stuck at 198%...

Dude, you've never seen the perfect ending!?

I guess I never did... Is that the funny one?

Because those games don't appeal to many people.

Am i the only one that thinks Lords of Shadow is going to be seen as a big mistake?

I don't know, i've just rarely seen particularly good results when a Western studio re-invisioned a Japanese game (though Metroid Prime is the huge, huge exception to that)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

No, you aren't. I think it's actually the default assumption where people aren't hero-worshipping Kojima. Took me a while to pull my own optimism out of the gutter.

But I enjoyed Legacy of Darkness. I'll end up enjoying this too, one way or the other.
