Forums - Nintendo - SMG Music - Best Mario Music Ever?

Mario's best musics = SM3

The ending of the NES version (Not the Super Mario All Star version) is absolutely incredible, as are the 8 themes of each world (Worlds 4 and 6 particularly) and the themes of the stages. And the underwater theme is also incredible.

But for what I've heard as today, SMG is going to have incredible musics too, probablt the best of all (Just because there will be musics from all the Mario Games plus the orchestrated musics)

I need this game now!!!!!!!!!

This is a random thing, but when I was a kid playing Super Mario World I wanted a sequel that would be even bigger. What did I call this sequel? Super Mario Galaxy. I mean it just seemed like the next logical step up in my youthful mind. Bigger than a world? It has to be a galaxy. I called it! Weird huh?

We knew this though.

Land--->World--->SUNshine--->Galaxy--->Universe--->Multiverse--->???

Well you don't get to play in Super Mario Land until Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins, which came out 2 years after Super Mario World.  Super Mario Land takes place in Sarasaland!

OT: this music kicks ass.

We'll see... I think it's all about the compositions, the melodies and arrangements, not about the realization. The SMB1 theme has become an immortal classic though it's done with NES bleep sounds.

People overemphase those aspects nowadays... real orchestration, voice acting, high definition graphics. The idea is still the most important thing. Everybody bitched about the lack of real orchestration in Twilight Princess... did they even notice the melodies, the arrangements, the way classic Zelda themes were woven in? Twilight Princess had fantastic music, some of the best I've ever heard in a videogame.

That's not to say that I don't appreciate the effort Nintendo is putting into Galaxy's music. On the contrary, I'm really happy about that. But it's the tunes that will decide if it's "best Mario Music ever", not the number of horns & violins. You can waste a lot of money on recording huge orchestras and still make shitty music with no memorable bit of melody, just look at the Lord of the Rings score.

Currently playing: NSMB (Wii)

Waiting for: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii), The Last Story (Wii), Golden Sun (DS), Portal 2 (Wii? or OSX), Metroid: Other M (Wii),
... and of course Zelda (Wii)

Give this man a trophy.

How many game themes can anybody here hum off the top of your head?

Out of those, how many of those games are over 10 years old and how many are under 10 years old?

Sounds like what you might hear in a light hearted 1950's adventure movie.
