Wow unbelievable, the vehement defense of MS's right to tun a profit no matter how unethical or borderline despicable. I don't know though, I have a tendency to side with consumers so I might be biased.

I don't think anyone is really defending it.  It sucks no doubt.

However this is just more bs spin against microsoft.  The simple fact is if you purchased a 3rd party device that isn't licensed by Microsoft its your fault for doing so if they end up causing it to quit working.   Something similar would be the R4 that is illegally used on nintendo Ds's.  No it isn't exactly the same thing but neither are licensed products so it doesn't matter.

Sony has been down this road before with digital cameras.  They force you to buy their shitty format if you wish to store your pictures.  No one beoches about that however.

hmm there is a catch

R4 isn't replacement for hardware but rather a tool for piracy.

but HDD 2.5 are.

and third party memory sticks work on sony cybershots cameras, and sony ericsson phone have microSD cars also, you are not forced to buy sony memory sticks.

there is sandisk and "insert here your favorite chinese brand", samsung etc etc.

your analogy it's wrong.

I have owned 3 different Sony digital cameras and they all used the proprietary memory discs instead of SD cards.  Is that the case with every camera Sony makes?  I don't know, but I do know for a long time it was.

My R4 example still stands, neither of the items I described were licensed so Microsoft or Nintendo could do what they can with them.  What is the big deal here?  I paid the extra money for the sony memory stick pro duo and had no problems about it.  BECAUSE I BOUGHT A SONY CAMERA.  It costed more than a cheap SD card but thats just to damnd bad because they weren't licensed by sony at the time.  Get over it and move along.  All companies make money where they can.................................

I don't see why this is a big deal considering MS layed the law down that you were not authorized to use third party accessories that weren't approved by MS. Get over it.

It's just that simple.

that's not the problem here!. microsoft and sony are free to sell hardware for their own devices. or use tech they want even if propietary.

what microsoft it's preventing here it's  a third party due  hardware,

sandisk makes memory sticks and they work on sony cameras,.

the problem here it's microsoft it's a 2.5' HDD, and third parties are now being banned from the consoles, sony doens't ban third party memory sticks, but they are not responsable if it works or not. almost all the times they work.

and nintendo allows other kind of third party accesories, what they don't allow it's R4 which allow piracy.

you don't have to use nintendo SD cards... you can use sandisk or panasonic, same for the ps3 you don t have t buy ps3 headset, u can use any bluetooth one.

I don't think YOU get it... even the Sandisk dou sticks are licensed by Sony and whoever makes SD cards undoubtedly has to pay the person who owns the rights to that technology... these are all licensed products and thus should work.  If they were not licensed and broke your hardware Sony would tell you to take a hike... as for the price of the 360 drive it is rather high, but you do pay for the right to use the Xbox Emulation software... both Intel and Nvidia are paid a fat fee per HDD sold... you understand that allowing someone to circumvent this could get Microsoft in a lot of trouble financially if it happened on a large scale.  So the bottom line is that Madcats memory cards and accessories will work just fine, but these accessories that could allow you to do things that could mess up your system or allow you to cheat are being removed through an update.  The HDD swap shouldn't cause any problems as long as the correct measures were taken... though I suppose MS does have the data to ban all non-official HDD from live and frankly that's probably best for the Live community

You are mistaken on Sony's memory sticks. They are proprietary and don't work on any SD card devices. You need a Sony Memory stick reader in order to read it to your computer or an adapter. Sony may be different now and allow sd cards in their cameras but the older models this isn't true. You could only use the Memory Sticks made by sony or licensed by them. SD cards is its own standard that Sony may have decided to include in their cameras. (I don't know because my old Sony Cameras don't have them and I don't have a new one).

Microsoft just doesn't license their products to 3rd parties very often. Like I said before the equipment that will no longer work in the 360's was never licensed to begin with. It was illegally made just like the R4. How hard is it to understand this????????????????? If a company has a license with Microsoft and they decided to stop allowing them to continue, there would be grounds for that company to sew M$ for breach of contract ( and collect lots of $).

I am done with this thread. If your going to comment on stuff you should at the very least know what your talking about.

Teehee. 10 bux says the Eu will not stand for this shit. Honesty, why are they the only people willing to take MS to task for anticompetitive behaviour?

Nope...Xbox doesn't have dominate market share in EU...first, secondly, this is gaming consoles, not OS...if EU pokes it's nose here, it had better be ready to get punched!
