Yes.
In the long term, musically, probably not - I'd expect the Beatles and maybe even Elvis to stand bigger historically. But from a column inches, awareness perspective, probably yes. But not necessarily for the right reasons due to how his private life way overtook his musical presence a long time ago.

Thanks. I can see we view this the same way.

The biggest star of all time, is probably Jesus or Muhammad. More people know of them then Micheal Jackson.
In 200 years, a LOT more people will know of them then Micheal Jackson.
last 20 years? probably
which is a shame, there have been several much better artists in that time imo, cant say ive ever thought too much of his music, other than knowing of its/his fame, they all sounded pretty boring to my ears.

Madonna is bigger than Michael, she´s been releasing albuns, singles and doing world tours on a regular bases, all with great sucess. MJ was not in the top for years, was not actual anymore, was not a number one star like Madonna still is. The biggest music stars are the Beatles, Elvis, Madonna, U2 and Led Zeppelin. One main problem with Michael is that he had few albuns relesed, only 6 from 1979 to 2001.

NOtice how people weren't intersetd in listening to him until he died, I think he is well known, but not entirely for the right reasons
