Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto on HD Graphics: Nintendo's Games Will Move Along with Progression of Technology

It was definitely smart of Nintendo from a financial standpoint to sit out the first round of the "HD wars' with M$ and Sony, rather than spent a ton of money trying to keep up with 2 companies who before this gen started had much deeper pockets than Nintendo did. Now Nintendo can afford to trick out their next system a bit more while still making it affordable enough to have mass market appeal. When it hits in 2011 or 2012 it should at least be as powerful as the 360 or PS3 currently are, and that would be more than enough to satisfy both the casual and core gaming audience in the visuals department.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

The problem with the quote is that it is incredibly cliche and obvious. Plenty of HD games have game play that is fantastic.
examples would be

In reality, game design is going backwards due to motion controls in my mind.
It forces the developer to hinder the rest of his game in order to satisfy the restrictive controls.

A HD wii is a welcome tool, but the wii has not seen a single title yet that is a step forward in game design since the gamecube era and I hope we see some soon.

That is why theyd didn't do it at first.

And motion control is not holding games back. That's just an excuse for developers who prefer throwing money at the game.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Motion control is holding games back. until its true 1 to 1 in a 3d environment i believe that it just constrains the game design to be a tack on to the controls, but thats just me. I love my wii and i'll be getting the pswand too, I just feel that it always feels like the game was designed around the controls and not the controls designed around the game.

I agree that the motion controls should be made to fit the game, and not the other way around.  There are quite a few promising Wii games coming up that seem to use the motion to genuinely enhance the game, like Silent Hill, Crystal Bearers, Red Steel 2, and The Grinder.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

The more the time passes, the more my prediction are coming true. Anyway, I think since SONY and MS abandoned HD this is the time for Nintendo to take the upper hand.

So you abandoned HD no more HD cables? too bad. Because we're making a video game console much better specs than you guys while your console are becoming outdated as time goes by.

And yeah about using the Nintendo fans thing, what did I tell you before? Theyre using you. Its been three years the only "core game" we have are Metroid other M and SMG 2 ans now theyre planning for the next console with better specs than the Wii. So much for ground up 3rd party Wii FPS with pointer controls

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

Games shouldn't be designed around the controls? Did you come into gaming post PS1? Gamepads have constantly change the way games played over the generations. Acting like it's a problem now just shows you don't know gaming history.

HEHE. Like disruption even now you all still dont get what Wii is all about. If you are enjoying Wii Sports and Wii play and WSR then thats Wii is all about. The Wii will not venture you in emmersive type of gameplay without motion controls Wii Sports wouldnt exist

It's a comment Nintendo has made before, though.
