MS is determined to beat Playstation, with the way the PS3 is going, I doubt they are happy AT ALL.

Assume the $50 price cut is WORLD WIDE for the arcade! so $50 is around £25.

So if MS release a $149 Xbox 360 ARCADE this, before black friday year, what do you think would happen:

(A) Sales wise between PS360?

(B) Sales wise between 360 & Wii?

(C) Would 360 have a better holiday than last year?

This is the only way MS can stop PS3's momentum this year, but if it happened, would it stop the momentum?

forget about Wii, it has won this generation, easily - the only question is who comes 2nd.

Not to criticize Darth, but I doubt that they will lower the price. They don't want to lower, because when Project Natal comes out they would have to raise the price back. Which would be a very stupid move

The price just went up in the UK so any Arcade price drop probably wouldn't apply here.

Well a $149 Arcade would mean a $249 Elite. I think the combination of these 2 things plus the holiday games bundling would be enough to outsell the PS3 again. Maybe not outsell their last year's holiday performance, but then again, we'll see. The economy hasn't gotten better yet, so $149 may be a very attractive price point.

I'm almost 100% certain MS can afford to do this cut. The only thing that may be holding them back is their plans for 2010 holiday with Natal.

Wii still wins the holiday and year.

Pretty much and coming in 2nd is irrelevant. I guess it would mean more to Microsoft, but for Sony, it's really irrelevant because they were 1st the last two generations prior. When you're first, you don't want to come in 2nd or 3rd ever.

As for the $149 price for the Arcade, that's not going to happen until next year I think. I think M$ would actually lose some money if they dropped the price of the Arcade to $149 this year. If they are smart, they will drop the Elite to $250 next year as well. I don't expect Sony to do anymore price cut until 2011. The fact that they are still losing money on the PS3 Slim is bad enough.

I think a $200 console with a hard drive would help sales.

I wonder if they will eventually ditch the Arcade after it gets to cheap and only market the models with harddrives. However I could see myself picking it up around 149.99... Especially if there is ever a Lost Odyssey 2.
