Partially agree.
PS3 is doing a lot better than predicted, but XB360 is doing better than PS3 last year, so IMVHO worst and best case can have PS3 numbers so high, but XB360 should be higher, I'd guess minimum gap could be somewhat higher than 4M and maximum around 6M. PS3 had no disaster last Xmas, despite the high price combined with the worst period of the crisis, so a disaster for a lower priced XB360, now that the crisis is slowly starting resolving, is quite unlikely. XB360 is faring quite disappointingly considering its affordable price and vast game library, but it's by no means a disaster. Even in worst case scenario, it's quite likely that MS can accomplish a 7 year plan.

So you are saying that total HD(PS3+X360) console sales will be equal to last year total HD console(PS3 + X360) sales??

I think XBOX360 is still the cheapest entry into the HD consoles at $199... secondly MS has a very strong fanbase n advertisement in US, so i m not expecting XBOX360 sales going to go much below than last yrs.. There r definitely going to be bundles also... Just like in Japan even when PS3 didn;t have any software and XBOX360 was getting all the exclusives, it didn;t fall to 2 - 3k level for much... So similarly in US XBOX cannot go to such low numbers.

Secondly i believe that total HD consoles (PS3 + X360) sales will be higher than last yr and they might eat a little into Wii sales ... and moreover 4th yr could still be the peak yr for XBOX360...

 

      You're right about the 360 being the cheapest entry into the hd wars.  However, I think Microsoft's own advertising has taken away that advantage.  Since August they've only been advertising that the Elite is $100.00 cheaper than it used to be in almost all of their advertising and not even mentioned the Arcade at all which I believe has had a negative effect on the Arcade model. 

       And so far it seems many more people want a PS3 Slim than a 360 Elite.

 

     To truely reinvigorate sales this year they will need to bring the price of the Arcade down to $150.00 and put a decent ad campaign behind it or maybe bring back the old Pro model with the 60 gig harddrive as the new Arcade model for $199.

I expect a 3.7 million for X360 and a 5.8 million for PS3,so the gap will be 5M by the end of this year

I took 3.5M and 5.3M, because that is how much PS3/360 sold last year. And this year, they`ve changed their places. I mean, PS3 got pricecut and x360 got additional 60GB. But why x360 sales would go up(over PS3`s last year sales) without pricecut and on 4th year, is beyond me.

I don`t expect PS3 to sell less than 5.25M for the rest of year and don`t expect x360 to sell more, than 3.5M either. And 1M was upper/lowest limit for both consoles. Possible or not, we will see after 12 weeks.

Yes, x360 has strong positions in NA, but so and PS3 now with 299$ price this year, which i expect will result in PS3 taking x360 NA sales.

I actually think PS3 will sell more than 360 did last year, and 360 will sell about maybe a bit more than PS3 last year thanks to America. Cause X360 is now actually selling worse than PS3 did last year, and PS3 more than what 360 did last year. 30M+ PS3 WW is almost a given and i think the HD console in total will sell more than last year, maybe a bit to the expense of the Wii.
