Except highest selling Marios were on home consoles Darth, Mario 1 and Mario world

both sold more than the DS version, and far more than the 3D versions, and unless the Wii franchise fans are the same as the 2D mario fans, there are tons of 2D mario fans who haven't gotten into Wii yet

Yes 15 YEARS ago

YOu have no proof that those fans still "care" about mario, 15 years is a long time, trends change.

If you expect NSMB Wii to pull wii out of its YOY down "trend" then you are setting yourself up for a disappointment.

  Its been about that long since a 2d Mario was on a console, so you don't know that they wouldn't care about Mario anymore, NSMB DS shows that they might

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

To people claiming the Wii has peaked already..

I HIGHLY doubt the most successful console of all time has peaked in only its 2nd year when most consoles generally peak in their third.. Keep in mind the Wii doesn't quite work in the same patterns as most consoles because it appeals largely to the expanded audience, which are a huge wildcard.

Also keep in mind that the Wii has yet to release its 3 biggest bomb shells possibly in its lifetime; NSMB Wii, DQ X (in Japan), and a true ground up Zelda for Wii. And this doesn't even take into account the x factor of the Wii series, which Nintendo could churn out another hugely successful "Wii" game out of the blue.

Wii may have very well reached its peak I guess, I'm not saying that for sure that it hasn't necessarily, but the important thing to look for is LONGEVITY of sales, and in that regard I think Wii will outlast its competition, just as many of its games tend to have greater legs than their HD counterparts. If the Wii peaked already but maintains these sales or with a minimal drop over the next few year, than isn't when it "peaked" largely irrelevant? Sure it's sales are down from last year, but that is mainly because it sold so abnormally WELL last year, not necesarilly that it's performing badly this year.

@ bold 1

I agree with you on THAT point......{see the end of my post to see why}

@bold 2

NSMB Wii......can't say

DQX......HELL YEAH, but we'r looking at more of a 3 week peak/boost period

Zelda Wii.....there is already a zelda game on wii

_____

YOU missed out the BIGGEST game, Wii Vitality Sensor

that can bring in more people from the expanded audience for sure...if done right

those other games, not so much.

Well it wouldn't be for NSMB only, as you;d get Wii sports as well, but not everyone is a hardcore Mario fan, nor does everyone enjoy 3D Mario

There are three types of Mario fans. Those who like the 2D games only, those who like 3d games only, and those who like both. I would say the both area is probably around half of the fanbase. 2d Mario games already sell very large amounts over the 3d games though. Even if you were to say that 9/10 2d only mario fans have a Wii, there is still around a million left. So that is a million who would buy a Wii. Also there are people who are on the fence on buying a wii or not. More games always push you more toward the Wii side of the fence. All games help a little or a lot in the short term and a general medium effect in the long term dependent on quality more than popularity I would say. Seeing that the game is released in the Holiday season, where people have the best ability to buy a Wii, I would say that it could very well boost sales in all regions for a good while, and it will definately have a large increase upon it's release. Either way, to say that all Mario fans own a Wii is very fallacious imo. Actually, it could be argued that they are even two different series in a single franchise based on gameplay elements. So I would say that there will be a moderate increase, but not a huge one.
