having 20m plus 8+ is better than just having 20m so both types of games will be made even if one of them only sells 2m. as long as there is a profit to be made the games will be made.

Personally when I think of Nintendo or want to play Nintendo games I prefer the old school 2d Mario. My gf has a Wii and I bought her SMG for it which was cool for a bit but its just not the same. Mario should be a 2d game. Some games aren't meant to evolve as much, and Mario is one of em.
^^ no Mario games are meant to be both 2D and 3D as it work well in both worlds. if you don't like them in 3D then just don't buy them.

Many people are missing the point.. Answer me this:
Will the flagship Mario title on Wii2 be 2D or 3D? Which would be more likely to be a launch title?
Ah I see what you mean now. I think, and hope, it will be 2d. Simply because it's more accessible and personally, slightly more fun. And also easier to make it multiplayer.
I traded my Wii for a PS3 :)
Can we wait for some sales first, please?
When (if?) NSMBWii hits Galaxy's life-to-date sales in a fraction of the time, then we can talk.
And regarding your latter question, i would say 3D would be more likely to be a launch title, since you want your launch titles to be a good representation of what your hardware can do. Though i suppose if Nintendo's next console is mostly focused on beefing up the graphics, they could do a balls-to-the-wall HD Sprites thing to expo the hardware capabilities, but Nintendo generally doesn't go in for that sort of thing.

Partly. We get a second Metroid on a single console this happened just once in history on gamecube.
On Zelda yes. But it's probably b/c of the last Zelda was delayed for Wii releae and we wont get 3 Zelda titles on Wii.

Forget about 2D or 3D. How about 2.5D like Super Paper Mario?

nah, maybe not. it's not like the games have tanked, but i guess the 2-d mario games just have more appeal to people
dont think so. DS is a portable and more popular system, if they put a new 3D mario instead of a 2D one I bet it would of sold similar numbers.
And no do not quote a n64 port.
