Forums - Sales - Fun Fact: Game sales Wii vs. PS3

The quality of a game is opinion.

The number of games is fact.

According to vgchartz, the Wii has over 600 games that already sold copies to consumers, whereas the PS3 has less than 400 (about 360).

To me, this explains Wii dominance.

Does it count if 99% of the Wii library is shovelware shit? The reason for Wii dominance is that everyone was amazed by the motion (gimicky) controlls at first (me included). Later most people realize, that the game offering and value / cost just ins't worth it. Unless they have no other console to play with, they usualy move on.

are you serious? i own all consoles and i know whats on the wii... 99% of the games isnt shovelware because there would be only 4 - 7 non shovelware games, grow up and stop being an arragant fanboy over a video game console

oh crap... lol great Faxanadu did you know what you got your self into? there will be wii hater fanboys entering this thread so watch your back lol

aaah yes, I think I can disprove you.

I have found 8 non shovelware games. Here the list:

1. Wii Sports
2. Wii Fit
3. Wii Sports Resort
4. Wii Fit +
5. Wii Music
6. Wii Play
7. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
8. Game Party

Are you serious about those games?

As for the others, the 99% was of course exaggeration, I didn't think that anyone would actualy go for this since I've presumed most people have brain.

@Cobretti2: Check my profile, I also have more Wii games than PS3 + NDS combined. Yet I barely play any of them, for except when I'm drunk and we have a go at SSBB or MK with friends.

@Reason for buying Wii: Why did I and people I know bought Wii? Well everyone is shoving it up your face as a evolution of gaming experience. So you either try it, or buy it expecting experience of the lifetime... Wii Sports are fun for a bit, than you get bored and move to the acclaimed first party titles... SMG and Metroid (this generation), yes, SMG is great, Metroid aswell, but it's just not everyone's cup of tea. And there you go, pretty much every other game you can find on other platform, in higher quality. The motion controls were up until now and the recent release of WiiM+ just a gimmick.

MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising

check my game list, my wii games list is bigger than my ps3 list. so no people do not move on. They adopt to a few systems for all their needs.

The fact that you felt the need to buy a PS3 suggests you did move on. This is the first gen where I've felt the need to buy more than 1 console. My cousins had a SNES I used to play on, then I got a PS1 (although was tempted by N64), PS2, then Wii. All previous gens I've managed to get by with 1 console and PC. This gen, even though its market leader, I felt the need to get a HD console and opted for a PS3 because the Wii was lacking in good 3rd party games.

Of all the traditional gamers I know, very few still play on their Wii, and many have sold them on e-bay in favour of either 360 or PS3. As far as I'm concerned I shouldn't have had to buy a second console.

So you built a straw man for me?

Very nice, thank you!

@Everyone:

Why do you derail my thread talking about such unimportant aspects like game quality? I dont want opinionated posts arguing about a subjective thing like game quality, but posts talking about the fact, which is that Wii has more than 600 games versus PS3 with less than 400.

The bolded part is your second mistake of the day. As fror the first one, you have to know that talking ill of Wii in this site is not good, they grab evrey word you say and turn against you, even if it is a obvious exageration.

As for the OP, is common sense that despite the huge number of games launched on the Wii, the number of good games is very low, since the last big release (Wii Sports resort, whose quality,IMO is debatable . This is actually considered one of the many reasons why Wii is slowing pace latelly. Of course Nintendo is not sitting quiet anymore, with the new Marios and a price cut.

The truth remains that despite the rising support, not many developers besides Nintendo itself, have manage to provide good games where the motion controls made the difference and because of that, having those 600 titles( officially more, I reckon, but not sure) is nothing to brag about, since only a small percentage(don't ask the actual number), more or less, use properly the advantages of the system.

Sure, no problem: Assuming Mario and Zelda Series (whatever that is) have not released more than 20 games this gen together on Wii, then that is at least 580 games. Still far more than on PS3.
