I know it happens, my issue is with your assertation that I or others in that thread were doing so, I just don't think that was an accurate claim at all, most/all people who gave 8's gave fair reasons, to me, it seems like that thread it wasn't so much of an issue, thats what im saying.

LOL! Yes... And I thought it was far more obvious than what these two threads have teached us. I thought everyone assumed that pretty much everyone are guilty of, not hating trolling and bashing, but guilty of bias - overrating your guys, downplaying the other guys.

The point is, or my point is, people need to admit it more often so that the behaviour can be controlled better, like for example in that game ranking game, you could decide that only Xbox fans can vote for X360 games and vice versa.

I'm sorry if you got that impression... i didn't mean everybody or you in particular, i meant it in a more general sense. i guess you have a point, it isn't EVERYBODY who does this and that's not what i said at all... there are people who will wrongly rate a game and there are people who honestly rate them. that's all i wanted to point out.

SciFiBoy it wasn't a big issue. But even small issues can be brought up can't they?

One 8 can't bring down the average very much no. But if ten of twenty guys do it, it has a significant effect.

But of course it's nothing like Gametrailers where Halo and Forza have been rated with 7.5 average grades by users.

I guess there's some truth to that. When I'm with my friends I sometimes pretend not to like a game i can't have cuz it's not on Wii (it's my only console this gen) but in truth I'd love to play them :)  i guess i was being i bit jealous.

and @ the ranking game suggestion, not a bad idea, but how would you tell? i mean i could just go out and say i'm a fan of something even though i'm not and everybody would beleive me (not after this post cuz i just said i only had a Wii LOL). Then that would let me comment on games as i pleased? :/

I refuse to accept that someone rating any game 8/10 should have to accept accusations of trolling, stealth trolling, downplaying, bias or whatever you want to call it.

They may be be guilty of one or all of the above but you can never sure they just don't like the game as much as you. Movie, book and game reviews are so much more than just the quality of the product reviewed.

There has to be room for and more acceptance of a range of opinions.

please read my posts upto now, I'll repeat anyway though.

i'm not talking about "any game" here, were talking about top games of the industry and an 8 is a bad score for such games. and i explained what I meant by top games and how that is determined, no one objected to the definition of that phrase.

@highlighted: exactly my point, nobody likes the same stuff, and some people dislike things for no reason, should that opinion effect other people if it isn't rightly justified? like i said in other posts, i don't like shooters therefore i won't like Halo.. etc is that enough of a reason for me to diss the game? i think not... 

and i can just as easily make up any reason i wanted for "justifying" my opinion like when that 3/10 rating said "I found the orientation of Galaxy to be disorienting and uncomfortable" where only part of the levels in mario galaxy were round and you could easily tell that from any video/trailer of the game... does that justify a 3 from a suposedly objective person? quality has to account for something...

apply that to people who prefer a certain company, console or franchise, maybe they prefer a certain genre or whatever... all i'm saying is that it happens, i have no doubt about that.
