Perhaps rather than taking the average, they should take the mode.

4th grade math comes to the rescue.

The mode is the value that occurs most often.

how was it so obvious to you? I'm just curious.

I guess it was judging by the post history of a voter who would give a pretty unresonable review, i mean a 3 is pretty easy to see but maybe a 7 or an 8 for a game that is clearly better than that would be "stelthier" like someone over in the Halo 3 thread posted.

and by 'clearly better' i mean by professional and amateur reviews, most people's opinion (who obviously played it and not someone who can't answer a simple question about a game), generally the opinion of a trusted person. and it's clear when even most fans of a competing console say it's good you know it's good :)

The problem with reviews is that a lot of them get based on hype alone if the game is a true blockbuster title.

Take GTA4, for example.

The trusted, professional reviewer's have rated it as the 2nd best game of all time. When in reality, it didn't even win GotY awards from most of the sites. The game gained 10/10 scores based on hype alone.

Here's  a question, who do you think in that thread, in particular, voted the game low "on purpose".

Also, try to understand, an 8 IS NOT that bad a score.....

I'd rather not say...

I think it is when you know the game's good and a few 8 scores could ruin a games average...

Like right now i'm in university, most of my grades are in the 90%+ region, so even if an 80 score seems good to you it isn't a "good" grade AT ALL to me. I have gotten grades in the 80% and once even in 70% and trust me they temporarily destroyed my GPA, until i retook those subjects that is ;)

but in a vote you can't "retake" a person's vote or choose to ignore it, That's what makes it even worse!

know a games good??? I don't know any game is good until I play it.... There was some pretty low scores with the other games that I didn't agree with but when people give reasoning behind there scores how can you not count them?

Ya but what about most people's opinions and people you trust? are you telling me you trust no one?! not even yourself? if you truly know a game's good then you should trust yourself too you know

like with GTA4 a lot of reviewers gave it high scores but the gaming community had it's own opinion, and i also have friends who i trust their opinions, they said it was great (fantastic even) but maybe reviewers went too high with all those 10s. and I played it a bit, not enough to review it but enough to get an idea, and i think the game is great and it has huge production values... i just don't like shooting or the gta formula in general, but i can honestly say that it's a good game :)

BUT i won't go around scoring GTA4 a score like 8 or 7 KNOWING that it will lower that game's average just cuz i don't like it... that would just be mean, nasty and dishonest

you seem pretty confident in what you believe so name name. let those people try and explain why the rated the game a certain way.

Are you saying people should rate the game on other people's opinion, not there own?

if you think a game's good then that's your opinion and you may have seen something in it noone else could, but when you say a game's bad when the majority of THE WORLD says it's good... i dunno, look at it how you wish

it's really difficult to tell who does this, i'm not saying anyone who doesn't think a game is all that great is a liar. but even if i don't like a particualr game you don't see me stomping all over people's joy and excitement for a game by saying: "hey i hate this game, it sucks!!". there really is never a need for that really.

like i personally don't like Shooters, so therefore i won't enjoy any of the following games: Halo, The Conduit, Killzone, Gears... etc, but you'll never find me posting negative comments in threads about these games. it's just in bad taste and uncalled for. why ruin someone's joy? i know not everyone like the games i like so i appreciate that most people don't just go around posting bad stuff about them :)

that's just what i think, no need to agree ;)
