Forums - Gaming - Top 5 game innovations this gen (for hardcore gamers)

But for teh hardcore gamers!

I doubt there have been any innovations in games this gen save for a few.

To be clear:

The only significant core innovation this generation is:

Cross game achievements.

I always thought of achievments/trophies as laziness - it seems like back then, more games used to reward players with fun cheats/tweaks to mess around. Now all you get is some useless text. Devs can now take out some replayability/variety from a game and replace them with achievements/trophies because there's plenty of hardcore gamers that are obsessed with getting them.

Why in Gods name is Horde mode on the list? I remember playing Horde modes in Timesplitters 2...

The part I'm wondering is, was CoD5's zombie mode really inspired by Horde mode like some say? Their releases were less than a week apart.

PSN: Parasitic_Link

the guy who made this seems to not own any old systems,

5 : Indigo Prophey did it , alot of PC Rpgs also did it
4 : seriously? , alot of rpgs had this ages ago , but why im i going far , Fable 1 ?
3 : this is seriously been here since the days of the arcades....
2 : team fortress , battlefield.
1 : Gmod!

This article just convinced me that if you only count "hardcore games," nothing new has happened this gen.

No, I refuse to believe these are the greatest innovations this gen. Wasn't the cover system an innovation of this gen? If so, I think it beats all of those.

i remember 007: Everything or nothing having it.

and it was old news back then.

You guys do realize they put (hardcore gamers) for a reason right. NOBODY innovates like Nintendo, they weren't even going to waste their time trying to imply that, and that's a GOOD thing.

So Nintendo is not Hardcore?!

YOU HYPOCRITE!

I can't think of anything new either...only upgrades.

Mirror´s edge should be at number 2 and COD 4 is excellent, but NOT an innovating game. LBP at number one seems ok.

Mirror's edge is innovative how? For being a first person platformer?

Shouldn't Scribblenauts qualify for this list?
