Forums - Sony - Could Uncharted 2 push PS3 sales above 300,000 and if so, how much?

as much as i hope this does happen i dont think it will, there will be a increase of consoles sold that week, but not a massive increase. though i do belive over the holiday season this will prove to be a system seller.

@saicho
should have specified: 2nd among PS3 games.

i don't believe at all that this game will be a system seller. if it's bundled, i think it's going to be a nice addition to the ps3.

i just don't think people are holding out on buying a ps3 for this game.

sorry I wasn't very clear I meant 300,000 week one. It seems entirely possible to me that Uncharted 2 could push 60,000 units of extra hardware. I'm pretty sure I remember Killzone 2 having a similar increase and although Uncharted 2 didn't have nearly as much hype as killzone 2, it also wasn't plagued be a lackluster prequel.

Killzone 2 was the first Killzone on the PS3. More to the point, the majority of the HW boost for that week was Yakuza 3 in Japan. Killzone 2 moved perhaps 25k units.

yes Uncharted 2 is a sequal, but a sequal that does much more than the last game and is of a higher quality.

It'll definately move some units. How many I'm not sure

the US commercial might help slightly but I doubt PS3 numbers would rise anymore then 15K by it (first week that is) I think this game will sell ALOT though

Currently playing: MAG, Heavy Rain, Infamous

Getting Plat trophies for: Heavy Rain, Infamous, RE5,  Burnout and GOW collection once I get it.

It might move a few systems (much like the small bump ODST saw) but I would be surprised to see much more. The game looks fantastic and has the reviews to back it up. I personally can't wait to play it. But IMO, Nathan Drake isn't a strong enough lead character to push sytems.

I doubt it. Only a rare couple of games are first week system sellers (GTA, Halo, MGS, FF, GT), while lots of good games contribute to a system's sales in the long run, they just aren't trackable in sales statistics.

Maybe Uncharted 2 could lifte the Slim sales by 20-20K, but it's hardly noticeable in the weekly variation in sales. Plus we could get well over 250K for PS3 anyway cos we're going into the pre-christmas lucrative season. October is always a great month in console sales.

It wouldn't be the lead character, but the overall game itself. The features (such as Co-op and multiplayer that were missing from the first) would be HUGE motivaters to pick up the system for the game, never mind the scores or word of mouth that would as well. The lead character doesn't always have to be responisble for system sales. You think Marcus Fenix was a reason to buy a 360 for Gears of War 1?

I'd be interested to see if you took a bunch of uniformed people interested in playing games, put Marcus Fenix and Nathan Drake side by side, which one they would choose to play?

You can only describe the features on the back of the box.  A lot games have online multiplayer and online co-op is starting to become more common place as well.  So I don't think the features are enough to push system sales (I am making the assumption that a good portion of the "Hardcore" gamers already own the PS3 or jumped on at the price drop).  What might push system sales is seeing the game  in motion on HDTV.  But I have yet to see a kiosk set up with the game.  Maybe after the game launches?
