Forums - Sales - PS3 will never beat 360 this generation.

The PS3 introduced a new redesign AND introduced a much more impressive price cut and yet they can barely stay over 360 in Americas after 1 month (week of oct 3rd's sales figures are very close now). That is not a good sign.

Worldwide, you'd think that the PS3 would catch up eventually but the MS has more options they can consider at this point to stay competitive. The 360 price cut doesn't even hold a candle to the PS3 price cut so MS has a lot more room to initiate further cuts. The entry cost for a PS3 is now $300, instead of $400 and you get 50% more HD space AND a slim redesign added bonus (80 to 120) whereas the entry cost for a 360 is still $300 (you just have double the hard drive space for that price now). And no the Arcade doesn't count because it's a very barebones system that's only good for offline. Sony really went all-out with this huge price cut and since their system costs more to make than a 360 (Blu-Ray, Wi-Fi, Cell processor is more expensive), we know Sony is bleeding much more than Microsoft is on their hardware. Heck MS might not even be bleeding at all on hardware anymore. Microsoft can easily counter with a $50 price cut if they really wanted to. In fact they should. It would take the wind out of the PS3's sails in Europe/Others, the swing region warzone. Whatever they do, MS is not just going to sit there while Sony eats away at their lead in Europe/Others. Japan is already lost (though they shouldn't give up on Japan. They improved quite a bit from last gen), America is already in the bag so you know Europe/Others will be a priority for them. That's where the race will be won or lost.

With MS having deeper pockets and cheaper hardware, red inked Sony doesn't want to play the price slashing game with them. MS can eat the losses no problem whereas Sony's shareholders would be calling for their head if they bled the company further. Sony really made a big desperation move releasing a slim with 50% more HD space at $100 off.

Red- It is the PS3's weakest market and the 360's strongest market. Many were expecting it to be below the 360 there by week 2... And it has done very well staying above 360 thus far.

Orange- Sony also still have a bunch of options.

Green- Yes it does count. It get's counted in sales so it also gets counted in "analysis". 360 entry price is $150.

Blue- They already did try counter with a pricecut, and it didn't work. The next 360 pricecut wont arrive until Natal launches. By that time PS3 manufacturing costs will likely be lower. Hey, guess what... We might even see another small PS3 pricecut or new SKU.

Pink- They dont need to play the price slashing game. They have huge momentum right now and will outsell the 360 by a LOT for the rest of the year. Going into next year Sony has it's biggest ip: Gran Turismo 5 and a LOAD of other big games that will increase hardware both slightly and by a lot. PS3 will consistantly outsell 360 until Natal launch, which is where we will see the next 360 pricecut.

I'm sorry to break it to you but the fighting genre is pretty weak. I don't think Tekken 6 is gonna push many consoles. I can't imagine anyone standing at Best Buy thinking "hmm I wanted a 360 but this PS3 Tekken bundle is just too amazing." You do know Tekken is also on the 360 therefore that point is moot.
BTW I'm still waiting for the first person to type "WHO CARES THE WII PWNS ALL!"

Japan say's hi. And the bundle is PS3 exclusive.

Kinda like the MW2 one that Ronster is talking about, but i notice you didn't argue againt that one...

PS3 will do it confirmed thread/

I couldn't have said it any better myself ^^^^

Sony make the slim and ps3 fans think that Microsoft are just gonna stand there and take it?

Call of Duty WM 2 360 console bundle will sell well (plus COD already sells much better on 360 than ps3)

GTA stories from liberty city will provide a boost, Forza 3's excellent review scores will provide a boost too VS only uncharted 2 thats exclusive for ps3 this fall.

Microsoft are practically tightening the noose around sonys neck this gen (3rd party exclusives are literally gone from sonys repertoire)

And sonys 2nd party exclusives are hardly setting the world on fire in terns of sales are they? (LBP, Killzone ect aint sold much)

And lastly......... Look at how well Left 4 Dead sold on 360 with NO BUNDLES compared to LBP and Uncharted that were bundled to death.

If Microsoft start bundling games like Left 4 Dead 2 and Alan Wake then they are gonna be dishing out a whole lot of pain to Sony in 2010.

They didn't stand there and take it. They released a Halo game and reduced the price of the best model (on Slim launch day). And it didn't work.

MW2 bundle will be limited as it is a special edition console, not to mention un-official PS3 bundles too.

Red- Those games will boost 360, but GoW 3 wont boost PS3?lol. Also, Tekken 6 is getting bundled with PS3 which will be a good seller.

Green- Demon's Souls, Final Fantasy 13, R&C: Crack in Time also... Probably missing a few out.

And 2 Million+ sales in under a year "aint much"?

Blue- If Sony start bundling games like God of War 3 and Gran Turismo 5 and Heavy Rain and Final Fantasy 13 and Mod Nation Racers and The Last Guardian and Agent and Final Fantasy Versus 13 and White Knight Chronicles then they are gonna be dishing out a whole lot of pain to Microsoft in 2010.

A whole lot of pain? LOL

Modnation racers, Demon souls, Ratchet and clank blah blah blah can EASILY be countered with Alan wake, Splinter cell: conviction, Left 4 Dead 2 or Crackdown 2 bundles.

And lets not forget that Halo Reach and Fable III are just around the corner and Gears of War 3 will no doubt be on the horizon soon aswell.

I stand by what i say.......... Microsoft have a counter for ANYTHING that sony can throw at them and then some...........

Red- What's so funny? It seems to be okay if MS dish a whole lot of pain to Sony...

Orange- Maybe so, but Sony have way more exclusives incoming, both new IP's and established IP's, not just sequel's to games already released on the console.

Green- 4th Halo game on 360 "bottom line" ________ Fable 3 won't shift consoles, if i remember correctly Fable 2 only provided a slight boost... Why would Fable 3 suddenly sell a fuck load? Gears 3, as i have told you... Is not coming out this gen.

Well, it really only depends on when the generation "ends" technically, the PS2 is still chugging along and thats last gen, so these companies dont discontinue and release consoles at the same time its hard to qualify a start and end to anything.

I think by the time MSFT introduces the next xbox it will be ahead of the PS3, unless the wands take off like mad for a new demographic....but when we compare LTD sales of the 360 and PS3 when they are stopped from the respective companies, PS3 will be ahead comfortably in actual LTD sales, imo.

Comment on the Elite price cut. That was something that was long in the making and Microsoft was waiting for Sony to reveal the slim and pricing before doing this. The arcade is actually $199 not $150 and I wouldn't really consider the $299 a price cut. All Microsoft did was replace the 60 gig pro with a 120 gig Elite. The price cut is still coming to the 360 but we won't see it until Microsoft has to do it. I would predict holiday season of 2010 before Natal to catch some attention. Possibly the $199 price point? Most likely $249 in my opinion, but I'm 99% sure the Elite will be dropped in price again by holidays of next year. My guess is next holiday season we will see : $199 arcade, $249 elite, and $299 arcade bundled with Natal.

Ok, well, it's been another week and guess what? The PS3 got another .1% of marketshare.

The PS3 continues to edge up in marketshare, conquering the planet at a slow pace lol.

I'm glad Japan is saying hi to me. Look at Japan's total sales. Do you really think Tekken 6 is gonna be the game to push PS3 towards second place? 100,000 system total boost by Tekken, 200,000 maybe? That won't make a dent in 7 million.

As i said before............ Gran turismo 5= BIG hardware boost.

God of War 3= Boost yes........ but only a small one like Fable II's boost (especially considering that Fable II has already caught GOW up in terms of sales after only ONE year)

As for the rest............ Heavy Rain? (A Shenmue wannabe and we all unfortunately know how poorly Shenmue I & II sold)

MAG?= wont do anything

Ratchet and clank= Good boost but nothing to write home about

Basically any of the sony games (apart from GT 5) above could easily be outsold by the likes of Fable III, Crackdown 2 or Splinter cell: Conviction.
