I strongly disagree. 360 has better games, and multiplatform games run and look better on it.

I guess the PS3 could outsell the 360, if the 360 came with a free PS3 for the next 2 years. But I'm leaning towards nope, never ever gonna happen.

;) wii it's market leader not the 360. actually the only country 360 main remain over ps3 it's america.

The last worldwide shipping totals which is the closest we have to 100% accurate worldwide sales imo (yes, it's not sales, but it's something close), is 31.4m 360 and 23.8 PS3 as of June 31 2009.
So Xbox is 7.6m in the lead.
Since we get ship numbers every quarter, using those..Sony has to ship 1 million more per quarter for 7 quarters just to catch up. that's basically two years, meaning June 2011. Last year in the 4Q Ms shipped about 1.5m more than Sony..lets say Sony flips that this year, theyre still 6.1m behind, with slow Q's coming up. It's going to be very hard to gain 1m a Q when for example, last June 31 Q both only shipped ~1m units.
The problem is I just dont see that as possible, MS will bring out Natal, Halo Reach, price drops of it's own, all things that will prevent PS3 from gaining. Natal alone could bring a big spur of 360 sales.
I think Pachters NPD predictions illustrate how difficult an opponent 360 is. Even in it's first month with all the hype, Sony could barely outsell the 360 which had no real price drop at all. Sure Sony does better in EU and has no competition from 360 in Japan, but it still just shows how tough microsoft hangs in there.

Seems you are trying to convince yourself.
PS3 will beat the 360. It may not be during this generation (technically), but it'll beat it.
I can see MS releasing the nextbox right before PS3 outsells the 360, so they can end the current gen and claim 360 as the leading HD console this gen.
After this holydays and the gap dropped to less than 5 million, I come back to this thread.

Actually, PS3 Slim sales are quite disappointing if Pachters NPD predictions are correct. After so much hype it will barely top the 360. Thats with free Blu Ray, free wi-fi, and free online compared to 360, and no RROD. What else could Sony do?
And that's Slim's first month. It can only fall from here most likely. Will it even win October? November? December? I'll bet that it wont.
And I'll tell you another thing, Microsoft is gradually training people that 360 should cost the same as PS3. PS3 and 360 with 120GB hard drive cost exactly the same. Yet 360 is not drowning. I mean to me, that's amazing. 360 is supposed to cost way less than PS3 in order to sell. Soon people will just expect that 360 and PS3 are the same price, and 360 will still win. |
Time will tell, but i remembered the PS3 will sell like HOTCKAES chant with a price cut...not so much in NA, and even in PAL...I remember when 360 use to get outsold by a much larger margin. Minus Japan, the PS3 Slim isn't really able to catch the 360...and people keeping overlooking a glaring point of what it took sony to GET o this point...namely a redesign console. To treat the situation as if it's a static one, with M$ and Nintendo having no response is riddiculous. M$ still has to launch a 45nm chipset, and still has Natal to launch, so the question is how close can Sony get, before M$ drops the price, and launches a possible game changer, other than the eventual price chop to $249 and $179.

If these companies kept score based on regions, that would be great, but they don't, they base it on revenue and profits...which makes it all one region.
In worldwide sales?...yes the PS3 will probably finish in 3rd place (though I think it´ll be really close to the 360).
And honestly, if one gets out of the fanboy mentality, why would it have to 'beat' the 360? (and vicd versa)....nothing major would change if these systems keep switching back and forth between 2nd and 3rd places...the way I see it, the PS3 Slim is doing what it needed to do, which was to make the PS3 competitive again, and so far it´s performed great in that regard, holding out better than many people were expecting (if comments on this site are any indication).
So far, in terms of sales, i see that both x360 and PS3 changed their places compared to last year.
http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=Wii®1=------&cons2=PS3®2=All&cons3=X360®3=All&start=39635&end=40090
In 2008 main x360 model, x360 pro reached 299$ price point, while PS3 just moved from 40GB to 80GB.
This year, main PS3 model reached 299$ price, while x360 model moved from 60GB to 120GB.
Sales so far are pretty much same, but i think PS3 will perform better than x360 last year(it already does, because of Slim model). Maybe x360 also will do a little bit better than PS3 last year too, but i`m not sure.
However, 199$ costing Wii could be a problem for both HD consoles in West during Christmas. In Japan, price for Wii was never a problem.
On weekly basis, PS3 is around 50k above last year`s x360 sales.
The gap could end with being only around 4 mln. by the end of the Christmas period.
Don`t forget, FFXIII will be release in Japan.
