Forums - Gaming - Why you can't trust the Internet -- Epic Mickey Wii exclusivity discussion

A lot is being made of Game Informer removing the information regarding Wii exclusivity for Epic Mickey. This could mean that nothing but GI jumped the gun in making that announcement. Or it could mean that a PS3 version will be made.Personally, so long as it comes out on Wii, I do not care if it is exclusive of multi-platform.

What I find most amusing is the "interpretations" of this by websites, particularly ones reporting it third-hand.

Epic Mickey looking not so Wii-Exclusive anymore

Oct. 7

We reported earlier this week that the long awaited and now confirmed Epic Mickey video game is to be a Wii-exclusive, but that doesn’t seem so likely any longer.

The Game Informer story said the game was coming “exclusively to Wii,” but according to 1UP, Junction Point, the team behind the game, are considering other options for the project.

According to the source, all references to its exclusivity have been stricken from the story, but I guess we’ll find out for sure when the issue hits next month.

Of course, if you go back and look at the 1Up article that is being cited as saying that Junction Point is developing the game for the PS3, all that issaid is speculation that it could mean that JP is doing a PS3 version.    It even says that it does not know what it means and will have to wait for the company's official word -- but you would never know that from the report in Blast.

Epic Mickey May Not Be Wii-Exclusive

The reveal teaser page removes mention of exclusivity.

By Steve Watts, 10/07/2009

It seems like the revelation that Epic Mickey would be a Wii exclusive may have come too soon. Many have noted that while the Game Informer teaser page once claimed the game was "coming exclusively" for the Wii, all references to that exclusivity have been removed. Junction Point may be considering other options for the game, but we won't know for sure until the company gives official word. As for what other consoles the game could come to, the PlayStation 3 seems like an apt pick. Its wand offers functionality similar to the Wii remote and it's due out before the game is set to hit. Natal is also a possibility, though it seems more based on full-body movement than pointer-like accuracy, so a game like Epic Mickey may not be ideal for it.

To me, this just means there are a lot of sloppy people and a lot of wishful thinking on the part of people who proport to be "professionals."

Thoughts?

Depends on what kind of subject we are talking about. (Just an reaction to your thread title...Well half of your thread title).

People rushed to conclusions on this one. I'm still thinking it'll appear on all 5 major systems- or at least on the 3 consoles

Great! PS3 fans can admit it might be a good game now.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

Game Informer have messed up before, like when they said Killzone 2 is coming to Xbox 360 (though that was just a typo, but still, some people actually believed it).

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Sure there is, just slightly less chance of it being good than for it to be average-bad since it's a Disney game.

Was that necessary? I'm a PS3 fan (not a fanboy, there's a difference), and I really got interested in this game when I heard Pixar is involved (I own a Wii, by the way).

I think people are missing the point here

-- I was talking most about Blast magazine misrepresenting what 1UP had said to claim a PS3 version was going to be made.

It's a phenomenon we've experienced just recently, with Suda 51 and the future of NMH, when the gaming media took a faulty translation and generally ran with it to "hallelujah! NMH leaves Nintendo platforms!"

This will probably have a similar outcome.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

It's certain to be coming to the wii but I still think it's possible that the game will come to other systems as well.

I find it more believable that the development studio & publisher are still deciding on platforms rather than them wanting to announce "wii exclusivity" themselves.
