Forums - Gaming - What if all gaming went digital? Will they all flop? since "PSP Go flopped"

Just a thought,  alot of people on VGC claims the PSP Go is a flop.  But a flop for 2 main reasons, price & no UMD drive.  Its evident the world is being more friendly with digital distribution not just in games but in music & movies as well (Itunes & Netflix).  Price factor can always drop so let that not be an issue, but no physical medium?  Where's all the people that said digital distribution is the future?

As we can see MS is strongly supportive towards digital because thats more their turf (and lets face, they didnt quite back up HD-DVD), so what if MS decides to make their Nextbox720 all digital, disregarding all 360 disc games etc. will that flop? then same with PS4 and we wont be able to play any of our old games.  Next, we wont have a VCR/DVD/BR player and we'll all just be playing off like an external HDD.  As well, Steam is doing amazingly well for what it does.  So if it all went digital in the next gen or next few gens ahead, will you still buy their new systems? Or will you transfer your PSP-Go hate towards them then?

Personally, an all digital "portable" gaming system is fine, its easy to handle like an mp3 player and cell phone (everything is already in there), but i would never want to digital to replace home console systems & movie players.

But know this, alot may hate on Sony's PSP Go.  But i give props to Sony for being the first to try this "digital only gaming console", thru this MS & Nintendo will learn from Sony's experience and might decide our gaming fate to go all digital or stay physical.  And at least Sony didnt make a completely new gen console/handheld just digital incase it bombed, thats why they kept the PSP-3000 =)

Im just curious to know what your opinons are to this situation (If some stuff doesnt make sense at all well sorry im no tech-savy guy lol).

Btw, today's my birthday so be easy on me if you feel like bashing what i said   ^____^

[EDIT]: Thanks to those with the birthday wishes =)

We won't be seeing an Online Distribution console for quite some time. THe average bandwidth in most countries is [including the main territories] is way to low. Even crazy man Kaz acknowledged that most people don't want to download ps3 sized games.

4 ≈ One

The whole point is to make it cheaper and easier, not more expensive and less convenient. If they can do that, I'm all on board. If they don't, well they can go to hell.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

Do it like Apple and you win.

But i dont think there will be a DD console in the near future. Just imagine a HW failure and the loss of all games on your HDD. Even if you can re-download them, it would be hell.

When MS makes the 360 with no DVD drive, no HDD and no XBL either and sells it for $50 more than the cheaper better version then thats a flop. IMO.

I think the PSP go hardware is a flop yes? but its actually selling so its sales are not a flop.

Let's see, with every generation, games are getting bigger and bigger. Last gen it was what? DVD capacity? Well we are barely in the middle of the current gen and some games have already reached the limit of single layer blueray disc (25gb) which is approximately 5 times of the last gen. So I can imagine games over 100gb beeing released in the future.

Can you imagine, downloading 10 games? Fucking up 1TB HDD, to play a new game, you'd have to delete old, than if you feel like playing it again do it all over? I have 30mb/s connection without bandwitch limit. But still, downloading from PSN is somewhere 1-2 mb/s. So I'd be downloading such game well over 28 hours... I can't see that happening on the HD+*ULTRA consoles.

MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising

Making everything digital would be fail. For example not a lot of people have high speed internet or even internet at all.Plus having a physical is always convenient.

Oh and Happy Birthday hope you have fun.

I agree with this.

But i do believe all games will be available to DD in the next gen of consoles

DD is gaining popularity and the PSPgo will is a very good way to determine just that.

btw: Happy bithday

It's $250 and screws over anyone wanting to upgrade. It's the way Sony have implemented the Digital Distribution that has made it into such a mess.
