Why ?

Anyways I think sony makes the best games and all these type of threads manages is to make me facepalm.

So they'll have more of an incentive to produce better video games and video games consoles.

I find many of the ps3 exclusive games i've bought this gen to be some of the best games ever created (in my opinion) including metal gear solid 4, uncharted and killzone 2.

The ps3 is concidered one amazing technological feat and it's processor is that of a super computer while it can do a insane amount of things it wouldn't if they focused only on games. Things that I use btw.

So I ask again, why ?

A. You mentioned Sega Nintendo being "neck & neck" for that gen. The point is, the gen will be noted that Nintendo handily beat Sega, despite the "neck & neck" weeks, and desopite Sega's brilliant offerings to the industry at the time. That's the point, take note...

B. You answered your own question about Nintendo getting a run for their money, in fact it happened TWO gens in a row.

C. Nintendo isn't the only company making consoles and the fact that you think that way tells me how misinformed you are.

You seem to have only one outlook on the situation, and aren't willing to take in anything else that doesn't favor your train of thought. Your thread title has also helped create the situation you're in. Your viewpoint IS NOT supreme, no matter how you choose to spin it...

I know this won't have anything to do with the points that you two were trying to make, but the 16-bit gen IS known for sega and Nintendo being neck to neck. The megadrive was suppported badly after the Saturn came out and in 1995 all pre-Saturn harware were discontinued in America. The Super Nintendo though, was supported and sold well into 1996, that's one year after the Playstation launched! Just to point out facts. A generation is known for what happened in that genertaion, not just how it ended. Saying the 16-bit generation is known for nintendo pwning Sega is like saying that the second generation of consoles is ONLY known for the video game crash and not the stuff that happened before it.

So they'll make better video games and video game products. I hope you understand that I'm not deriding your favorite consoles and games when I say I don't think they're the best they would do if video games were their main business.

The company have a division dedicated to it. It's well known that sonys divisions are very split up.. or used to be. We are seing greater integration these days which is a good thing. Again I don't agree with you because I like how my console is able to do a lot more than gaming. I don't think they would make better products inside gaming if that were their only buisness. However, I don't think we would get the features we have now nor the integration between products that's currently happening. IE it would be a bad thing.

Well to clear things up there wasn't a problem with them being a multifaceted company it was they fact that their core business wasn't video games. I think what has been happening is that Sony and Microsoft have been bringing in their own agendas from their core business such as popularizing a new disk formate or proprietary API's. They're willing to do all of this without making any profit at all on the systems (and even make substantial losses) because their core business will benefit.

In the end some people will be satisfied with their products but maybe not enough to support those companies and more then likely a lot of customers will be left in the dust because they don't really matter in the big picture.

Technology is changing though and more and more options are popping up because of it so this really isn't all that hopeless. I guess I just miss having game companies compete with each other in grand marketing attempts that involved mascots and edgy commercials.

Yeah, from the good ol' days when they competed against Nintendo and Sega.
