This 'gen' is over. People shouldn't argue about it or the policies of what 'Sony' or 'Nintendo' or 'MS' seem to be. All the companies have completely changed their policies not only in the last generation, but multiple times in the last few years seeing the trends of Nintendo taking over, the world economy collapsing and their own (old) tactics failing. The old Sony and Microsoft are gone. And Nintendo changed a long time ago, producing the Wii.
People need to look to the future, and its anything but certain. Sony is completely reorganizing its company structure (not just its gaming division, but completely). Focusing on purging the overspending and 'more is better' thinking of the past (like how the PS3 and CELL technology was developed under) and focusing instead on cheaper alternatives and interconnectivity with their devices (hmm...wonder where they got that idea *cough* Apple/Nintendo).
Microsoft is following a similar path, though still throwing money at any speed bumps they come across to reach 'point B' (aka buying out companies, heavy advertising, pay-offs, etc).
I don't think I need to describe Nintendo's strategy. But the question is...what Nintendo is going to do in the future. And no one can ever guess what Nintendo will do.
